Rucker tweeted last night that Stokes said he wasn't going to sleep until he made at least 100. Around 3AM, Stokes tweets this:

Great win. Just got up a ton of freethrows. S/o to my boy @Yemite0 for staying up and rebounding! Photo by jarnellstokes • Instagram

If we get into the NCAA tourney, he can't put on a show like that again... Good to see him practicing

Imagine if he put as much effort into his free throws as he does in making sure his head band is perfectly in place every time he makes contact with someone.

Let it go. He's not a good FT shooter. You disapprove. He stayed late to work on it. End of story.

Love to see this. He definately need it. I was just giving him props a few days ago too about how much better hes gotten at the line. Pretty bad fall off the last few games. We have to have him show up big Saturday.

Question for the basketball guru's.

Does this help?

When my golf swing goes to bama I can go hit bucket after bucket of balls and just get worse. Alot of times I just have to take a break.

All you can ask a player to do at any level is to work hard on his weaknesses. Good to see this level of dedication.

Its all about muscle memory, just like a golf swing, the more shots you put up the better you will get. Granted hes never going to be a 90% foul shooter, but he can get better.

It depends IMO. If you're practicing free throws with bad mechanics it's unlikely you're gonna improve a whole lot more than the 58% he is. The 1/10 is a fluke, it got in his head and he had a horrendous night, bad mechanics or not you won't likely see that agin.

I would've liked to have seen Kent Williams there working with him too on the mechanics or maybe they addressed it on he flight home...it's good to see him putting in the work, he doesn't have to be 90%, but 65-70 would be nice.

I definitely agree, if you are practicing poorly then its not going to help.

He should do that every day and begin to improve his free throw average actually the whole team should do that every day from here on out. If they want to beat Mizzou go deep in the Sec tourney and make a Run in the NCAA that is where people live and die at watched several tournament games end because guys on the losing team could not make free throws.

Wayne Chism made big improvements in his FT shooting while at UT. Kenny Hall is much improved this year I've noticed.

Thanks.

Pretty much what I was thinking. If you're doing something wrong, practicing doing it that way doesnt help. With ya...feel like if he's gonna put in this effort a coach should've too.

Shooting free throws are as close to the game of golf as it comes, in sports. Golf is such a mental game. And so is shooting free throws. After Stokes 3rd trip to the line his confidence was shot. Even good shooters can go through confidence issues, at the line. But when someone who isnt a particuarly good shooter to begin with misses 4 or 5 in a row, on the road, he starts to expect to miss instead on expecting to make.

I agree that the golf and FT's are similar as far as confidence but I would say around putting more-so than the swing. A lot can go wrong with the full swing. Shooting FT's is like putting 5 footers. You should make at least 70% of those.
