I'm in full NBA draft mode right now and I keep wondering about Jarnell's pro potential. The reason I wonder is that if he doesn't grow an inch or two or doesn't have a 7' wingspan it's going to be very difficult for him to be a 4 at the next level. He reminds me of Jared Sullinger a good bit but that's just me. I think he can be a very good NBA player but might be limited because he's not really an above the rim player even though he is VERY instinctive as a rebounder and has an impeccable feel for blocking shots without having an outstanding vertical.

Another thing is that next year's draft looks thin and he looks like a lock for the lottery so I think he'd be an idiot to come back.

But I don't claim to be an expert and want to know what you guys think. I think this offseason of playing and working out can change his body enough to change his potential from solid/good to a franchise cornerstone.

I'm certainly going to enjoy this season watching him dominate the SEC.

I gotta say you raise some good points. Personally, I have held off on judgement of Stokes. There were so many factors, his condition, time away from organized ball, the fact that he enrolled mid-season, etc. If he's the real deal, we should be able to tell by conference play next season IMO. My prediction is that he will start and finish strong while being fairly consistent. I suppose maybe 12 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 1 BPG.

No doubt he has the potential to be absolutely dominant, so I'm being conservative in my predictions.

Sorry, got off track. My point is that I don't think I've seen enough of him to determine if he'll be able to be a good NBA player.

If he stayed till his junior year I believe it would def help the teams ability to land big time recruits.

He has an NBA body, he wont get bullied, I have no doubt he can at least be a Dejuan Blair for a team, he has a good shot, I think he will be a good player. His only real negative is he is shorter than most 4's.

Well seeing as how he already has a 7'1" wingspan I don't think him having a sub 7' wingspan will be an issue.

I've already stated somewhere that in a way I kinda am expecting him to put up huge numbers this season. Something along the lines of 18-20ppg, 10 rebounds, 4 assists.

Those are some pretty lofty numbers and expectations, but time will tell.

Has the potential. BTO is high on the new S&C coach. Hopefully that will help. L

Blair is 6'6.5" and jarnell is 6'9", so he definitely is bigger than Blair. Blair's last year he went 15ppg 12rpg 59%fg, I see jarnell putting up similar numbers, but probably more like 9-10 rebounds a game. Sully put up 17 and 9 at only 51% fg shooting.

Blair was considered a first round lock until medical examiners found he had no ACLs, that caused his fall. Same for sullinger, considered top 5 lock, but recent medical questions could severely hurt his stock.

I see Jarnell being projected somewhere between 12-20 next year.

he has to average more than 12 points a game nextseason. he was right at 10 a game last year in half a season. i see him at 15 points, 10 rebounds. we need at least that out of him.

I could be completely wrong, but I don't see any player averaging more than 15 PPG if the offense is running correctly.

If the offense is running correctly, stokes and Maymon will be getting ALOT of shots.

I did a breakdown a few months ago of our shot distribution, I wish I had it. It really showed how guard heavy it was, it needs to almost completely flip flop.

I don't disagree with you it's just wierd to see the measurements change at the pre-draft combines for some guys.

He has been measured by NBA standards or whatever they use, and that's what he measured. This isn't a Tennessee measurement, it was at the LBJ camp iirc.

I don't know. But my WISH would be for him to be a first rounder. Late pick. By my Heat! Boom! He could practice with Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Chalmers, Battier... wow.. not that unrealistic either!

There is always a place in the NBA for 6ft8 muscular guys who can move other bigs off the blocks. It seems to me his athleticism is somewhat limited but he is soo strong and can pass the ball well too. I think if he could drop his body fat % by several more degrees while maintaining his weight around 260 with mostly muscle and get in tip top shape then we will see just how good he can be. He definitely has some nice post moves but seems a step slow to me when you look at NBA potential at this point in time.

No when millions are on the table you dont pass it up. He leaves

Its not like nobody has ever retuned to school. The biggest thing will probably be where is he projected. If he's guaranteed lottery pick(top 14 iirc) then hell probably go. If he's not guaranteed a lottery pick, then the salary situation is much different and I could definitely see him returning ad trying to solidify his spot in the lottery picks for the following years draft.

And then there's also the, what does next years team look like factor. If we make it to say the sweet 16 this year, returning most everyone, plus add his good friend Nichols, he may be intrigued to return one more year to see what the team can do.

As it relates to Sullinger's injury / draft stock, I heard yesterday that he wasn't given an invite to the draft in NYC. Might mean there's a possibility that he slips out of the first round. I don't see how a team could pass on him if he's still there in the later part of the first round, but it's looking like there's a chance.
