What?
I can't tell if that was a joke or not.
I'm not here to rain on the Vols' parade, and I'd love Memphis to get an extra shot at a ranked team next season, but the Vols have a losing record heading into the bulk of conference play. Are we seriously talking about them being a ranked team next season, without question, at this point?
I wouldn't be surprised if Stokes ends up 6'9 and 260-265 by the beginning of the season next year. Possibly bigger/taller, as he's already supposedly a tall 6'8 and 270 unconditioned. You know who fits that profile? A guy that plays C for tOSU, who is 6'9 255lbs and is the #1 reason that team is so dominate. I could see it looking like this:
PG: Golden/Stanton/Washpun
SG: McRae/McBee/Richardson
SF: Richardson/Edwards
PF: Maymon/Stokes/Hall
C: Stokes/Hall
Stokes seems like he has a very solid inside game, not sure of his post up moves just yet but everyone saw how silky smooth his hook shot was against the #2 team in the nation. On top of that he's tough, physical, and huge. He seemed to have a high basketball IQ and floor vision - I was impressed when he found Maymon for the easy lay in when UK was trying to double him down low. Moves like that could help Maymon become a more consistent player on the offensive end. Pretty pumped about our future, definitely ranked next season! :good!:
Watch out you will get bashed for saying that he could still grow a bit, you'll also get jumped on for saying he can be 265 and play effective. That is just too heavy for him, he will be severely winded at that weight no matter how good of conditioning he has. (sarcasm) in my opinion you are spot on with this, I still think maymon will play the 5 because of his offensive limitations and stokes ability to step out though.
I agree, but I think Maymon is limited offensively at the 5. It seems to me that he creates his offense by driving to the rack. Sure, he gets underneath passes and offensive put backs, but I think he's at his best when he's driving. He's not much of a threat to step-out / doesn't have much of a face-up game, so I agree with you there. His best moves though, start out at the top of the key or about 15 feet away from the basket. Stokes or Maymon?? Not a bad problem to have, all things considered.
Unless there is a debacle as long as we finish strong and have a good show in a tourney I see it very plausible they are ranked going into next year.
I haven't seen anything that tells me that the Vols will finish strong. This shouldn't offend Vols fans either. The rational ones out there understood that this season was going to be a rebuilding year and even break .500 would be a stretch.
I can reassess this view after the half-way point of UT's conference schedule, but right now UT is 8-9 with losses to Austin Peay, Oakland and College of Charleston. The win over Florida looks good right now (i'd like to see how their road schedule plays out), but I think the Vols need more than that to vault into next seaon's ranking.

We need shooters next year. If we get 2, the team could be strong. We need a 2 and either a 3 or a 4 that can step out consistently. A 6'7 kid that can play 4 and shoot the 3 would be great for the development of Stokes and the pg.
