Just wanted to give a shout out to Jarnell Stokes! He has taken more crap from our fan base than any player I can remember, with maybe the exception of Scotty Hopson. He has improved so much this year compared to last year.

Last year people complained about his free throw shooting...he went from 57% to 70%

Last year people said he disappeared during big games...he's averaging 17 points 12.5 rebounds against the top 3 SEC teams UF, UK, and Ole Miss.

Last year people complained about his jumpshot...he's hitting at least 1 per game now.

Last but not least, last year people complained about his post moves...this year he is hitting running hook shots, turn around hook shots, and reverse layups. When he takes it to the basket he takes it hard with authority and either makes it or gets fouled almost every time.

He is the most improved player I can remember and has really been the only positive thing from this team this year. He is easily my favorite player on this team and ranks up there with Lofton and Chism. He has earned himself a spot on a NBA roster. I hope my Thunder use their late 1st round pick on him. He could do just as well as Perkins and Collison for a lot less.

He really benefited his individual game by coming back this year. I think he is now NBA ready. I just feel bad that he's had to play on such bad teams.

I wouldn't say he's the only positive thing this year. Jordan McRae is having a POY type season. But I agree that Stokes has silenced many of his critics. Another criticism (justified or not) was that he was lazy and lackadaisical. I don't think even the most cynical fan can say that now.

In a season full of disappointment, Stokes' development into an all-SEC player has been enjoyable.

Thats what makse the season more depressing....we have a top 3 guard and top 3 big in the league right now.

That fake pivot move on the baseline where Stokes finished with a reverse layup on the baseline was one of the best offensive moves I've seen him make. I was impressed with his energy on offense last night.

I'm starting to believe the "talent" on this team is fool's gold. McRae, Stokes, and Richardson and Maymon on most nights, are a pretty solid core. But we have no consistency from the PG position (sound familiar), which is so key. We have very little quality depth. And to add to it, there is average (at best) coaching to bring them up.

Thompson and Davis are very young, and it shows up often, especially defensively. Moore is a spark off the bench, but not supremely talented. He's more of a hustler. Barton is a bad fit for our halfcourt offense, and if he isnt hitting from outside, he may as well be absent. The rest are roster-fillers (Reese, Pops, Chievous)

Agree on that move. The dunk he made on a similar move against USCe was impressive too.

His 15 ft running hook shoot with the and 1 was insane. I mean, he had no business taking that but wow that was impressive.

I'm enjoying watching him play because this will be his last go round in orange.

Opposing coach's strategy against him should be to steal his head band.

NBA bound. Will take a couple of years to develop - but he's got what it takes.

I've been one of those questioning whether his skill set would cross over to the NBA. If he continues to develop his mid range game then I could see him as a mid 1st round pick now.

What are you complaining about? Seems like if everyone starts trashing him because he's not up to Charles Barkley standards, then watch out. At least that's the way it appears in your story. Cause & effect.

Truthfully, hes been a really + player for us and a great ambassador/example for our team. Glad we have him. Good thing these guys don't pay attention to the adolescence and ignorance on here.

You must have a really short memory. Stokes produced as a 1/2 semester high school senior, just not at the level he is now. Improvement yes, most ever - not even close.

McRae - rarely saw the floor as a freshman and didn't earn a starting slot until mid way through his junior year.

Brian Williams - Lard arse who could barely make it up and down the court his feshman year and developed into a competent SEC post presence his senior year.

Most improved in my memory, from FR year to SR has to be Jajaun Smith. His FR year he was nothing but a turnover waiting to happen.
As for Stokes, he is markedly improved this year.

I still can't see him making it big in the NBA just yet. Too slow & indecisive . They'll eat him alive.

I was a Stokes basher but I must say he has turned his game around and is now playing like the 5-star they said he was. Still work on free throws at critical times though.

You know what, I was one of those bashers...Ill be a man and admit it. Hell, most posters on here know how hard I was on him calling him a TULIP haha He really has shut me up..and Im glad he did. He has played like the beast he is and has dominated down low! This is the player I envisioned..great to see! HE HAS PROVED ME WRONG AND THE SHOE IS IN MY MOUTH.

He's not slow. He'll be better in the NBA when teams aren't double teaming him. He has a very quick first step just needs to be more decisive like you say. He's far from slow to be 6'8 (6'7) 260 and be able to get up and down the floor like he does will only help him.

Love that he isn't afraid to take that 15-20 ft. If he can knock that down at the next level, he'll have a job for a long time.

He does need to tighten up his defense some tho. I'm not talking about his rebounding. His defensive awareness is pretty poor. IMO He needs to do a better job of seeing ball and man, and stepping up on help defense. Even if he can't block the shot, he should be contesting more around the rim.
