Stoops to Notre Dame?

That would be interesting. It might be good for Stoops to have a change of scenery, but I doubt he leaves OU though. Though it is Notre Dame. Kirk Ferentz would be a mistake, IMO.

Seems like it would be a weird fit. Yet i have been thinking for a while that Stoops stay in Norman is getting a little stale.

Don't let iowavol see that... You'll have to endure posts of how Ferentz is an elite coach.

:lolabove: Took the words right out of my mouth. Ferentz lucked into some wins this year. Indiana just collapsed against them

It is an interesting thought though. Notre Dame can, and should, talk to any coach they want to. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run at Pete Carol, or even Dungy. I still feel it will be either Brian Kelly, or Meyer... but its Notre Dame, I won't rule out anyone.

Charlie Weis is done at Notre Dame: When Charlie Weis took Notre Dame to the Fiesta Bowl in 2005 it appeared he might have a good run. But now the Irish are 6-4 and will have to win one of its two remaining games against UConn or Stanford to become bowl eligible. Weis has not made a lot of friends in his time at South Bend and so he is not going to get the benefit of the doubt from the old line Golden Domers. His buyout is substantial but that won’t matter. Who will be the next coach? You know Urban Myer’s people will get a call and Notre Dame will make him say no. The next obvious choice is Brian Kelly, who has pretty much maxed out what he can do at Cincinnati. Kelly has told me he is prepared to stay at Cincinnati if the school wants to play ball at the highest level. They can’t afford to do that. The courageous call by Notre Dame would be to call Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson. Notre Dame needs to be running the option, given the realities of its situation (weather, recruiting). But I don’t think the folks who run things at Notre Dame are willing to think outside the box that much.

Paul Johnson to ND makes the most sense from a standpoint that concerns wins and losses. What he's done with the talent given at both Navy and GT is extraordinary. The system Navy still uses that has beat ND the past two years is Johnsons, as is the players that are currently there. ND has to get the best coaching for the talent that they garner which isn't the same as their pre-90's days. Paul Johnson fits that bill.

I would be all over Brian Kelly. Dude can flat-out coach. If you don't believe it, check out rivals recruiting for the talent he's been winning with.
