Stop the whining over the low star recruits!!!!!

:censored: people are so obsessed with saying that "it doesnt matter what the star rating is, look at Chris Johnson. or Hughes?" this has nothing to do with it.

if we were loaded at OL with only 4-6 spots left and we just needed to fill a few needs here or there, then yes, I would be 100% content with taking a 2* saftey.

but as it stands, we are not.
No, most reasonable people would say if we had a choice we would fill our 27 slots with all 4-5*. But we are not going to get them this late. I'd rather have a 2* with some athlethic ability than a zero star walkon from Knoxville Farragut.......which at this point is the other option.

Funny thing about the recruiting sites is that they often times increase a player's rankings depending on which teams are recruiting them and which teams have offered.

They much of their own evals, but trust me on one thing - trust the coach's eyes more than those of the sites. Often times people start hitting players harder after a big named school has made their move on a player. Remember Michael Taylor, that undersized dude who kicked much tail in UA game? I am sure Lance Thompson evaluated Taylor at some point and time.

No doubt about it, we are going to have a top 10 class.

We have an outside shot at top 5.

Dooley and Co. have done an exceptional job.

thats not the point! why are people so obsessed with the hopeful possibility that some 2* may one day turn out to be a superstar. i dont care about star rankings any more than you, i simply care about position needs--OL and DL specifically, with only a few precious spots left. and lets face it, this saftey is not some 5* athletic freak that the whole nation is after. no, this is a kid who could one day be the next Eric Berry, but we dont know that yet and at the present moment we are just taking a gamble.

position need > star rating. that, and only that, is my point.

I think the star ranking means more on skill positions, but harder to measure pad level, balance, and heart the it takes to be a DT or any of the OL. The 2* safety for any lineman is an interesting debate.

If the coaching staff thinks they can play then it's fine with me to sign them. However, if they're just signing them for bodys I would rather the wait till next year a sign a bunch of solid kids and back sign them(or whatever it is called)

First, let me say that I am thrilled with the job that our coaches have done, especially considering their predicament. It's incredible to me that we are talking about a possible top 10 class! Second, I am thankful for and have no problem with any of the recruits that we've got on our board. I look forward to seeing how they'll develop and contribute. My question is this: Are Crump, Sapp, and Propst better than some of the linebackers or DB's in Tennessee with the same star ratings? In other words, was it necessary to go out of state to fill these needs or were there deserving guys in state that were just as good as these 3? Just curious.

I think the answer is yes. It is necessary to go out of the state to get talent, and if we had the talent in state at these positions we would have worked hard to get them.

We are looking for raw talent.

These kids are still growing physically and mentally. None of the kids (even most of the 5 stars) have the fundamentals or the knowledge of the game to dominate like the veterans in the college game that have had a couple/few years to learn and practice.

Guys we have a FANTASTIC class shaping up. Ain't nothing like Fulmer's classes after the 2005 and 2007 seasons.

Will everyone please quit picking on the Sullins twins. They bleed Orange!!!!!!!!!!

The 2* safety will obviously become a linebacker. IMO we are moving to a 3-4 so we need depth at linebacker which makes this a good pick up all things considered. Why does everyone hate on a guy who wants to play for us?

It sure looks like we are recruiting towards a shift to a 3-4 defense.

I WILL TRY AND TYPE THIS SO YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND. JUST BECAUSE THEY COMMITTED DOESNT MEAN ON NSD WE WILL TAKE THEM, IF A BETTER PLAYER COMES THE LOWER RATED PLAYER WILL BE TOLD TO GO SOMEPLACE ELSE. DO YOU UNDERSTAND. COACH DOOLEY IS PROBABLY TELLING THEM THIS WHEN THEY GIVE THEIR VERBAL.

Seems Va. Tech does pretty good with alot of 3 star players. The difficulty getting lineman concerns me though. Here we have a prime opportunity for early playing time and still can't get them.

I like the signature at the end. "Dictated, but not read."

I wonder what it would take for some of you to agree a recruit isn't SEC caliber. I think he could bring in anyone and some of you would be saying what a good get it is.

congrats! it doesnt matter. you dont get it. its not about freaking star rating. its about position needs. i would rather wait for a lineman thats a 4* or even sign on a 2 or 3* lineman first than take a no-name 2* saftey that has upside. its not logical.

i dont care what the star says, i care what the position is. and also, damn straight i would take a 5* Ambles or Rogers over two 2* DBs anyday...

You mean like Daniel Brooks or Chris Donald? Not much bang for our bucks on those stars. I'd rather have a 2 or 3 star kid that actually meaningful snaps in a game.
