STRAY VANDY THOUGHTS

While his dad looked dumb, and like a jerk, It's not any different that UF fans coming up with 15 different, derogatory versions of Rocky Top and singing that at the top of their lungs in Neyland or on the strip, etc.

I wish he would have gotten into a fight, though.

Like I said, like father, like son.

... orchestrated an unbelievable 4th quarter comback at FLORIDA. ...

Unbelieveable would constitute winning the game, like Clausen did at LSU. That was unbelieveable... Cutler throwing a pick to lose the game... that's unbelieveable... calling this 4th quarter comeback unbelieveable? Not so much.

First of all why are gator fans coming to a tennessee volunteer message board complaining about a vandy fan doing the chomp. Not only does that make gator nation look pathetic but it also makes the person that wrote this on the board look like a little bitch. BOO HOO cant take a gator chomp from a vandy fan. Get over it buddy and quit your crying.

There was a sign at a South Bend pancake house that said something like, "Thanks, Urban, for going to Florida." :D

Problem is he was not just rooting for his kid.  He was PURPOSEFULLY antagonizing Gator fans.  Now, everyday fans do that.  I just figure the parents to be a bit above that, especially when they are on the road.

I don't expect the guy to come in and humble himself at the Altar of Urban.  But likewise I think he should show a bit more class than to mock opposing fans and apparently almost go fight one.

Maybe my expectations are too high.  But I can honestly say that its the first and only time out of many times you see parents in the stands on tv that I have ever watched a guy be such a troublemaker.

lawgator, I am sure he was responding to the what the fans had been doing to him the whole game. You KNOW that there were probably a bunch of Gator fans that were ragging on him the whole game. Something good happened, and he was giving it back. Obviously, he probably didn't expect it to be on national television. And I agree with NC, he probably should have waited a little longer.....but then he wouldn't have gotten to do it at all.

I've got to agree with this. Bad behavior doesn't merit bad behavior but I've watched the UT/UF game with UF fans and they (some) can get SO obnoxious that it's difficult not to give some back.

He did screw up by starting too early though

I hate celebration penalties. It's crap that celebrating a TD can cost you a ballgame.

We do...but there are some good posters and debate here. It gets old posting on a board where everyone basically agrees with you. We also tread lightly in your house!

Games would be sooo boring if we did not try to ruff up the feathers of our opponents. You should hear our tribute to Alabama when they come acallin. The problem comes when some Type A personalities take offense to our light hearted fun. As the old saying goes...If you can't take a joke ______. You fill in the blank :birgits_giggle:

Damn people - you are worried and getting bent out of shape that a vandy fan had reason to celebrate and mock a chant.
Do gator fans go to the Alabama posting site complain to them that UT fans mocked their stupid chomp. I think not.
They should not have had given Vandy a reason to be in the game.

IT beats not getting killed by some deranged Georgia fans after that game. Lighten up it is just friendly competition and mocking another teams cheer is part of the competition. It is not hurting anyone.

My personal favorite is when the University of Minnesota band played Rocky Top in the closing moments of their team's victory over Bama in last year's Music City Bowl. The Bammers are still yammering about that.

man, we have to run the table to get to a bowl. we have to beat memphis, vandy and kentucky. lol music city bound.

Man that is awsome that Minnesota took the time to learn Rocky Top. That is classic. I wish i saw that especially to Bama Fans. There could be things worst than a vandy fan doing a gator chomp.

cops are thugs? Take shots at teams all you want, but knocking on someone who risks their life for a public service is childish and immature. GROW UP.

Ok, some cops are thugs and they have to be given a thugs job to do. Inner city, urban metro, where do you live, Sesquatchie Valley?

Growing up is admitting to the realities in the world, I'm there, come join me. :eek:k:

Based on what was shown on ESPN, Vandy got cheated. As far as his dad goes, come on its Vandy. He got a little excited about winning the game or at least the chance of it (kinda like Gator fans) and you call him a jerk (pot meet kettle)?

I agree. I wish fans would grow up on all teams and let everyone enjoy the game instead of seeing how big of jackass they can make out of themslves. I have seen too much slide by at UT games.

Clever video. Don't know that it needed to go on for 4 minutes, but makes its point. I maintain there may have been more to it than that. Someone earlier alluded to a different Vandy player doing something -- would like to know more if anyone has anything. If it was just that guy and just that little dance, then I agree that it was a lame call. Just thinking there was more.

As to Cutler's Dad, I've said my piece. Some on here seem to agree with me, others don't, and that's okay. In the end its a personal point of view on showing some smarts, class, and, yes, even a little respect for your opponent and its fans.

I've been to opposing stadiums all over the place (okay, a few) and I have never been anything but polite. That may be the exception with college fans and probably Gator fans in general. Wish my fellow Gators weren't that way. Not much I can do about it.

At any rate, in my opinion, there's no place for the father of a player to go on the road and mock and antagonize the home team's fans to the point of near fisticuffs. Just not worth it.
