Strength and Conditioning Program

Let me try to reframe this arguement.

UT has a problem with injuries.
Better conditioning reduces the risk of injury.
Better condtioning would reduce UT's risk of injury.

Show me the error here. That seems logical to me.

To me it's just not that simple. There are a lot of injuries that no amount of conditioning can overcome.

It seems logical only if you are not watching the film of our injuries. I would say that UTs style of play leads to more injuries than our conditioning program. Our injuries to our RBs might well be the result of our RBs rarely going out of bounds or down without a fight. Our RBs love to punish defenders, even on the sidelines they will lower their shoulders and try to get those extra yards. Reggie Bush, Darius Walker, Jamaal Charles, and company have no problems waltzing out of bounds. Our defense plays just as hard. With a man running with a full head of steam down the sideline, most CBs would have opted to go for the legs...not Inky! He went for the kill shot and unfortunately lowered his head. Same goes with J. Allen last year (this was the guy who decided to take on Ronnie Brown straight up in 2004...) Ainge's injury was the result of staying in the pocket to try to make a play, Schaefer's was also the result of hanging on to the ball long enough to let something develop.

So, in that case, OU also has a conditioning problem??? Just look at the injuries to major positions OU has had over the past 5-6 years. White, Heupel, and Peterson...

Casey Clausen did not get injured during his freshman year, he was not that big. We had two QBs go down in one quarter, yet Peyton Manning (a true freshman) did not get injured all year, and only sustained one injury his whole career. Jamal Lewis got injured, however, Henry and Stephens never did.

The types of injuries sustained the other night could not have been prevented by better conditioning.

What the hell does running an extra half mile a day have to do with neck injuries? That's just dumb.

As was said previously, if he had a lot of cramps and stuff like that, then yeah, that would be conditioning...but we don't. Believe it or not, UT is generaqlly one of the best conditioned teams in the country. You saw this even last year in Baton Rouge, when LSU players were repeatedly going down with cramps and other injuries, while we just kept on.

I believe this might be a case of, "Can't blame Fulmer for our record now...what can we blame him for..."

There are basically 2 camps here, one that thinks the strength and conditioning should be able to reduce the number of injuries a team has and the other thinks its not going to prevent most injuries. Lets just leave it at that.
