Ok,VolNation, what are the perceived strengths and weaknesses yall see in our upcoming 13 Vols? I say:STRENGTHS: coaching!; O-line; RB ; defensive front 7. WEAK: QB inexperience; no proven WR ; no proven DBs. schedule! What do yall think? Can we improve any weaknesses? Could they be strengths? I am excited and fan support will help too. GO VOLS!

Pretty sure the only strengths are the offensive line and the running backs with another year of Jay Graham, but it's still relative, still mid-pack SEC caliber.

Maybe, and I mean MAYBE, middle linebacker with AJ, but top to bottom, the LB corps is not a strength. I suppose the defensive line has a chance to be good, but I wouldn't count on it.

Weaknesses:

Overall Depth
No QB experience
No experience at WR
No game changers at RB
No speed on defense on any level
No game changers on the defensive side
A lack of a competent kicker or punter
No game changers at kick or returners
Installing a 3rd defensive scheme in 3 years
Installing a new offensive scheme

Strengths:

Austin Peay, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, and Kentucky.

That should ensure 4 wins without breaking a sweat.

Jones has a lot of work to do.

The ONLY strength the UT football program has next year is us, the fans, and our willingness to pull our team through our brutal schedule and not give up on them. As much as we don't like some of the decisions made and some of the recruits coming, we are die hard UT fans with orange blood, and we will always pull for UT, regardless of if we are terrible or not.

obviously the D will be better, no matter what. weakness-cb,punting,place kicking, quality depth at LB,still need TE,wr depth and experience/more talent could show up in the spring and fall, new systems O + D. Strength -QB depth, excellent o line players to install new scheme, good rb's/more talent soon, safety,AJ+Curt, better coaching, better defensive scheme for personnel(except McCullers)

Folks, you are missing what they have returning at LB for the 4-3 for depth. Harris, Lewis, and Bynum are healed. Fugate has a year under his belt at LB. AJ, Maggitt, and Crump have played a lot of football.

Add in the interior DT's if Big Mac and Sentimore make it back. Couch, Hood, O'Brien, Tugboat, Clark, and Saulsberry are back. Walls, Smith and Miller are seniors with a lot of experience. Taylor is back for DE. These guys are all seasoned or have a redshirt behind them. Most have good experinece in the 4-3.

It's all about the secondary. And even that will be improved with scheme alone by using more 2-deep zone. Don't expect aggressive Chavis type D. Expect a controlled, keep the ball in front of you, bend don't break D that squeezes down in the red zone.

I have zero worries on O. The guys will take to it like fish in water. Most were in spreads going back to HS and Chaney ran it some as well. It's the same zone blocking scheme they used last year only with more quick traps (which is a good thing) and counters. Lane, Neal, DY, Q will all do great in it. The passing game is short, intermediate outs, go type patterns, and deep posts. It is a timing offense. Worley and Peterman will love it and ran spreads in their base offenses in HS.

Ok, you are making me feel much better. I will choose to be positive again in 2013.

You surely dont think our o-line is middle of the pack. RB's, no doubt, but the oline is as strong as any.

I disagree with this. Cincy's defense was based on creating turnovers and you dont do that by playing safe and keeping things in front of you. I doubt the new DC changes his philosophy just because he's here now. JMO

The defensive front 7 is a strength?

Yes. It was our secondary last year that was sad.

RB's and mobile QB's break through lines all the time, they are just usually brought down not long after. It made our D-line look bad that every time someone broke through, there was a good chance they were going for 6.

Anyone that takes ANYTHING positive from last years defense simply needs their head examined. 108th out of 120. Please stop.
