Stroud and Nico

I finally was able to see a whole Houston game and I kept telling myself this guy is smooth.
Nico has the same smoothness , no?
Or who is the best comparable NFL QB to Nico?
Is Nico growing into a favorable comparison? Sure. I’ll give you that.

Five games is a small sample size compared to CJ’s 27 games at OSU and 21* (23) as a Texan. I can only claim to have watched all of his Texans starts.

I think what you’re referring to as “smoothness” is throwing a catchable ball.

*missed two starts 2023.

Stroud is a statue in the pocket, but a statue that is silky smooth with his touch and the ability to process through his reads rapidly.

Nico has played a total of what 5 games? Way too early to tell, but he's actually mobile compared to Stroud.

I feel like the Oregon version of Marcus Mariota is a better comp.

If he could put on some serious weight I'd say he could be Josh Allen-lite.

Way to early to compare Nico to pro guys. We have 5 games worth of game footage. But physically, he reminds me more of Justin Herbert.
He's also really I think alot like Hooker...but taller. Evasive and purposeful when called upon to run, and very accurate passing pretty much the entire route system, though not refined enough yet (ball security + true tests...game on the line drives)

That’d b a lot of ass to put on. Eventually, sure, but we’re talking years.

Some of our fans, bless them, are so into over hyping Nico to Volgod 2.0 status, the proper way to spell reason is r-e-s-i-n. It's a sticky topic and focus for them.
Personally, I hope their wildest too early imagines prove true. But you know, at least I know what that gummy stuff leaking from the pine tree out back is.

Yeah, I doubt Nico will ever be quite as big and strong as Allen. He’s more agile and quick though. Allen is quick…for a guy who’s big enough to run over NFL linebackers. Nico could be 6 inches shorter than he is and would still look quick.

Nico has talent,we all know that. The thing IMO which separates the good from the great QB's is accuracy! Tom Brady showcased this to the inth degree.Peyton also. You have to be accurate.Nico when given time is very accurate IMO.At times the OL has let him get hit too soon.Adjustment to the pressure of SEC DL play is the gorilla in the room for Nico & the OL.

False, I never sold Moore being better than Nico. What I said is that he could take over. And guess what? I'm not the only one who thinks that. Unfortunately, try as I did, I can't locate the quote where either a coach or talking head stated, "No matter which QB is splaying, the Vols will score and score." What I said, and you misconstrue, is that Moore by virtue of deep familiarity and experience COULD replace Nico. In his limited chances, he has shown he'd be a very capable replacement. I never said he'd BEAT Nico out of the QB job. The problem you see, is one of comprehension, yours of a nature I'd call Greenspism.

Nico has a long way to go to be considered a great QB. He’s got as much/more potential as anyone we’ve ever had and in limited PT has made some outstanding throws. He has much to prove as to how good he will be. This is not a negative take. The OL is his biggest challenge right now to reaching his full potential.

In the limited sample size, my take on Nico has been that his arm talent is much better than I expected, and his mobility is not as good as I was hoping. He seems to be a little hesitant when the pocket breaks down. I admit that Hooker was so incredible in that regard that I'm probably a little spoiled.

Far more talented than stroud… not polished yet but physically it’s not close. Far better arm and mobility
By what metric? You need to slow yer roll, there hombre.

…excuse me. You do you, but imho, Stroud has displayed qb success at the collegiate and professional level.

Love me some ee-ah-mah-lay-Ava, but there is a lot of growth required to catch up with Stroud.

I agree. I’ve been surprised at his lack of elusiveness. I was thinking he’d be as good maybe better than what Dobbs did with his feet at UT. It doesnt appear that’s going to be a major part of his game.
