Stroud and Nico

U take every chance u get to say that Nico is overrated , not good etc.
Here we go again, another falsehood attached to a loudmouth. But that's OK, I trust participants on this board who actually know my history of posting regarding Nico, to not be fooled by such mendacious mutterings as you spout.

I agree. I’ve been surprised at his lack of elusiveness. I was thinking he’d be as good maybe better than what Dobbs did with his feet at UT. It doesnt appear that’s going to be a major part of his game.
Nico is not Dobbs, that's for sure. However, he seems to have a unique ability to opt to run when the most yardage is available. I suspect his sense of timing is what makes this so. Just the same, I cringe when he takes off because of his lanky frame. I don't want to see him crunched. I think Josh and company has pounded it into his head to slide when sliding is called for. Based on his recent runs.

Get the hell OB too.

Physically it’s not close , Nico is the superior athlete. And “ you do you “ lol what are u 80?
Are you basing that on Nico’s volleyball highlights that showed him with a freakish jumping and spiking ability? I don’t think that type of athleticism translates to football. But go ahead and hype Nico to levels of ability he may not achieve. I’ll enjoy what he is and how he grows over time here. No need to crown him as superior to anyone, in my opinion.

Hoping he deserves that high praise, but he’s yet to exhibit it. I remember Hooker struggling a bit in ‘21. …’22 at Brice, for that matter.

In the limited sample size, my take on Nico has been that his arm talent is much better than I expected, and his mobility is not as good as I was hoping. He seems to be a little hesitant when the pocket breaks down. I admit that Hooker was so incredible in that regard that I'm probably a little spoiled.
I think he’s likely just as athletic as you thought, but as a young player he’s maybe a little greedy. That’s what happened on that first int against NC State. He’s already making good decisions, but as he matures he’ll learn to take what’s there to an even greater degree.

Better to have a guy who’s naturally a little too aggressive and have to rein him in rather than a guy who takes off at the slightest bit of pressure and has to be taught to keep looking downfield.

Hooker was also older and wiser than Nico is now. We were blessed to get Hooker here when we needed senior and super senior type guys to bridge us into younger more talented recruits.

He will learn. I think Nico has a bright future, as his archetype is what the NFL really wants: incredible arm talent along with the ability to make quick reads. I also think coaches are telling him to limit his scrambles to last resort, as he is fast but lanky and liable to get drilled by somebody in open space. The main part of his game I would like to see improve is his ability to extend plays with his legs and arm on the boundaries. We saw some of that against NCST where they had the right defense called, but Nico was patient and killed them with a quick dump to an open TE from broken coverage trying to stop the run instead of the pass.

You’re pretty narrow minded aren’t you? Do you just troll around seeking engagement? Until you get ignored….again?
Ignoring these things doesn't work. They just create a new board name and subscription, then it's business as usual.

I’ll take the bait occasionally. Best to just take a deep breath and scroll. 😉🤙🏼
Ahh, so true. I be guilty of trying to stomp out their fire too often, I fear. Though I know better. I think I have Bartleby, the scrivener syndrome.
Ahhh, Bartleyby, ahhh, humanity!!

We haven’t needed Nico to use his running ability very much. I don’t think we’ve opened up our offense very much at this point. I expect that will change and we’ll see more of Nico’s running ability.

Nico reminds me a little bit of Joe Burrow (with a stronger arm) in structure. Nico throws a very catchable 🏈 and I just love his mechanics in his base and he leads receivers very well.

He has a little of the Bryce Young out of structure when he creates. And it makes sense because they played at the same high school. But the fact that he’s doing it a 6’6” is impressive.

He’s only going to continue to improve and what I love is he works and it seems his teammates respect him. Playing QB isn’t just about making throws it’s can you galvanize and lead people on/off the field and when things are going well or bad.

If you take away the UTC game he really hasn't been great. Some of that is how we our blowing team out. The Oklahoma game a combination of our defense playing well, and tackles playing poor.

Excited to see him get 30 throws in a game to see us air it out.

He's also really I think alot like Hooker...but taller. Evasive and purposeful when called upon to run, and very accurate passing pretty much the entire route system, though not refined enough yet (ball security + true tests...game on the line drives)
Just thought about my post and I guess everyone thinks of stars in the league when comparing Nico to someone. But, if Hooker didn't get hurt, he'd more than likely be w/ a program who needed a QB, imo probably doing pretty well...he's not as fast, but he's every bit as elusive and as competent of a passer as Daniels is w/ Washington. I think he'll eventually be a star...personally, I wish Giants would grab him.

30 passes may mean we are losing. This week will tell us a lot. Cupcake teams don’t really show who he really is and Oklahoma’s defense played really well and our Offensive tackles didnt so we dialed it back. I think the Hogs will be a decent defense for him to grow some.

Stroud is a statue in the pocket, but a statue that is silky smooth with his touch and the ability to process through his reads rapidly.

Nico has played a total of what 5 games? Way too early to tell, but he's actually mobile compared to Stroud.

I feel like the Oregon version of Marcus Mariota is a better comp.

If he could put on some serious weight I'd say he could be Josh Allen-lite.
Stroud in not a statue in the pocket. He is mobile when he needs to be, especially with the Texans. He showed how mobile he could be in college he really could be when allowed to run as demonstrated in the one game he was allowed to do it (in that classic game with GA., which was his last). He is the most accurate passer I have ever seen, and almost assuredly a future HOF'er.
