The video coordinator will be the one to take the blame and will be jobless soon.

And rightfully so.

I have worked on a video crew for a major college, and I have worked in a tower like that. At my school, the head coach decided whether to practice in the wind. And, if they're practicing, they're going to want the video. I suppose the video coordinator could/may have protested using the tower.

Our video coordinator would tell whoever was in the tower how high they could go when it was windy, but even that was just a guess, because until now, we didn't know what it took to knock one of these things over.

We don't know what was said betwen the coach and video coordinator that day at ND. Having worked in one of those departments, I'm not ready to single out the video coordinator for all of the blame.

There's a very good chance Brian Kelley and the VC didn't even speak the day it happened. Not saying that it was the VC who was solely responsible. But this kid reported directly to him/her.

It's strange that they carried on with practice after the victim was carted off in critical condition.

That doesn't look very good.

When you pay the head coach so much more than everyone else, it does make it difficult to delegate blame on an assistant.

As I recall (this was on Basilio's show today) Kelly also had a lapse in judgment at his earlier stint (Central Michigan?) by having a player who had committed manslaughter(?) on the team.

A couple years ago I wished we had hired Kelly here, but that's two pretty bad strikes against him.

I had to go to a dinner for work last night, and we actually had a lengthy conversation on this topic.

I grew up around football my whole life, stepdad was a head high school coach in orange county so most of my childhood memories are being in the coaches office during summer and after school.

I was pretty small so never really played football, but my brother was really good played college etc.

Anyway, it ultimately is the head coaches responsibility to account for everything that is going on at the practice. The quote from Tressel in that article is very telling.

A 20 year old kid is going to do his job until he is told not to, he doesn't have the foresight or experience to recognize a situation that may be fatal. He is going to do his job until he is told to get down. I wouldn't doubt he trusted the coaches/football staff to notify him if they believed the situation was dangerous.

If I were his parents I would be pissed more than anything.

Not to mention at that age and at a place like ND, he probably thought refusing to go up there would mean he would be "fired".

Chances are if it wasn't this kid it would have been somoene else.

This is what the young man tweeted ..Just before the practice began, Sullivan posted Twitter messages in which he said ''Gusts of wind up to 60 mph today will be fun at work ... I guess I've lived long enough.''

Less than an hour before the accident, he tweeted again, saying it was ''terrifying'' to be on the tower in the high winds.

This didn't have to happen, the head coach and AD should be held accountable.
