If you consider an observance of cinco de mayo an attempt to "overthrow exisisting power" or what have you, I'm sorry. Like it was stated earlier, its mostly observed by gringo coeds. And somehow, I'm the bad guy here that wants to stomp on freespeech. Whatever. My record is good. Look at my other posts.
The issue I had was paying folks that took advantage, possibly on purpose. If yall are cool with that, by all means, cut the check.
I'm waiting for laura's reponse on the radio now.

Damages for constitutional violations aren't like punitive damages in tort. These students aren't going to get rich from this claim.

No, Im giving their douchebag parents too much credit if anything. They saw an opportunity before/or after the fact (doesnt matter) and chose to hang it to a school district. Way to f up your community by taking funds from a school district. Im sure those books and whatnot will be free next year.

I'll tell you this, its obvious wearing the gear was premeditated. What leads you to believe my concept couldnt be?

Of course it had to be premeditated, the kids woke up and asked themselves, gee what am I going to wear today?

What about the kids wearing mexican flag t shirts, are their parents also 'douchebags??'

Your neighbor is the baddest of the bad asses. You should hang out with him and listen to some Toby Keith cd's.

People can get their point across without being that way. Getting paid for it after the fact only cheapens the fact of what they were "exercising their right/protesting". Free speech is something I support completely, but I don't manipulate the system and try to get a check out of the deal.

It might make other administrators think twice before another half baked knee jerk reaction to something they could have just laughed about, I hope the families get a million a piece for the ignomity of it all.

Actually my neighbor's son is sort of a wuss except for one thing, his freedoms, he doesn't give them up without a fight.

So are you posting this to imply that citizens (I assume they are citizens) should not have the ability to fight for their free speech rights? I'm confused.

I stay confused. :)

To put it bluntly my feelings are that it is a travesty to condone the wearing of apparel with the Mexican flag on it and sending students home who are wearing apparel with the American flag on it.

Unfortunately some academians these days don't have the guts of your average earth worm.

this isn't being an extremist it's about some HS kids wearing an American flag shirt on a Mexican "holiday" invented by Corona. It's like someone getting offended by a guy drinking out of a "World's Greatest Dad" mug on Mother's Day.

Every single person/group associated with this story is an idiot but the only ones who actually did anything wrong were the school admins

And that's why they will have to answer in court!!

:eek:k:

trust me, gs is on your team paul. Im gonna play the roll of "puppy puncher" here.

The last time I watched aTm play the pooch punt was their best play, as a matter of fact it's the only one they were any good at executing.

No I do not but did you know that the day after the students were sent home that some 200 Mexican students walked out of class in protest. As they marched down the street waving the Mexican flag, they demanded the boys’ suspension.

Responding to the ongoing drama at Live Oak, a young Latina declared that wearing the American flag on Cinco de Mayo was akin to Mexicans wearing the Mexican flag on the Fourth of July.

Who gives a rats ass if she wears a mexican flag on July fourth???

PURE FREAKING IGNORANCE!!

In the first place the mexican indepence day is September 16th!!

In the second place the Mexicans can look to the Americans who hoisted the American flag as the reason they still aren't a subject of France.

Seeing the American flag on cinco de mayo should not be a reason for anger but for a sense of pride in America.

*******nit how I hate communist rhetoric and all the strive it brings forth and likewise those ignorant souls whou parrot such garbage.

I don't give a piece of spit what your record is, you are attacking and attempteing to vilify the wrong folks!!

Bottom line is that there would be no cinco de mayo celebration without the help of the American people!!!

Crappy parents are, or at least, they're one of many issues.

Parents that don't care are more of a problem than those who do care imo.

Because thats what they do. You seriously cant be telling me they didnt atleast expect a reaction out of them are you?

You really deep down inside of you feel certain that, the thought that the school was going to say anything, never crossed their minds the night before. Parents or kids?

So they are supposed to just ignore what is going on??

Touche. Maybe I am a troll. Yall have a good one. I'll see yall in the morning.

Oh, Ill admit that the reaction by the admin was pretty dumb too, but the orginal reasoning made perfect sense. You have a couple of kids, who deliberatly decked them selves out in specific gear, on a specific day that happens to be a Holiday for our neighbors to the south. Knowing full well that it was a Mexican Holiday. The Admin was trying to avoid potential conflict. I think that was made pretty clear in the orginal article.

and justin, sorry bud. I got nothing for you if you cant wrap your head around the idea that America is the World's melting pot. Good luck with that.

I am not willing to let the left and the ACLU types take our heritage and patriotism away from us just so some minority group doesn't feel uncomfortable.

"Whats tomorrow little Jimmy?"

"5 of May daddy"

"Here's a new USA shirt for you to wear."

"K, thanks."

Im sure it went down just like that.

Teenage kids, male or female, never wear close their parents pick out for them. Even if it was something they might have liked the fact that they didn't choose it would mean it will be buried in the bottom of the closet never to see the light of day.

I don't buy into the idea this was set up to turn out the way it did. I think this was simply a case of some goofy teenagers, fed up with what they perceived as preferential treatment brought on by a PC mindset which actually engendered the very discrimination they felt they were protecting against.

The parents are just as entitled as anyone else to have their day in court. Right or wrong it's the way our system works. By the way it's the school systems themselves that brought this idiocy about by buying into this overly protective PC crap.

No, it doesn't make me happy. Very little our school systems are doing right now make me happy. Our whole way of thinking about education needs to change, it obviously isn't working for us. We throw money at the problem and the more we spend the less we get in return. Obviously money isn't the problem, it starts at home but policies made by school boards and the teachers unions are doing even more harm it seems.
