"what will fix it?" experience. the talent is already there, it just needs to get experience and improve from year-to-year. keep the good recruiting class coming to integrate them into team. Part of the problem this season is that both sides of the line were top-heavy with senior and jrs going pro that the almost all the players were inexperienced coming into this season.
i agree about the inexperience...that too was a factor, but that still goes to depth. we relied, especially on defense, the guys we had up front last year and those starters up front last year were nasty.
after those guys, you can see where we are. there's a pretty decent drop off in talent from what we had last season up front on D to what we have up front this year on D, and they were all on the team last year, for the most part.
ON the offensive line, we have some young talent that may in fact develop in to quality SEC O linemen. but the o line the past 3-4 years has been a)woefully overrated or b)simply not as talented as we're used to seeing. I'd reallly like to see where we'd be if we had gotten M. Oher.
but i still say, esp. when you go back to the 03/04 recruiting class we brought in that was so highly regarded...and i don't know this off the top of my head, but how many of those highly touted recruits are even on the team today? How many have been significant contributors to this year's team?
We all know how we did in recruiting last year...wasn't absolutely terrible, but it definitely wasn't up to the standard we've set in the past. we should be getting some help from some guys coming next season that had to go to prep school...but i hope we get back to a class like we're used to, quick.
we need to get back to recruiting like we're used to, so when it's time to bring someone off the bench like we've had to do this year, the questions aren't so big.
