Sugar Bowl discussion (from recruiting forum)

The sub plots make this a very interesting game on both sides. I'm not going to write Cincy off as not having a chance, nor will I say UF is going to come out uninspired, and flat. I put very little confidence points on this game in my bowl pool.

If UC had its coaching staff intact, I'd be all over them in the upset. But their head coach is gone, their DC is probably going with him, and their OC and interim coach has already taken a job somewhere else. So you figure both teams will be out of it, which means that raw physical talent should carry the day. I wouldn't put any money on it either way, but I expect UF to win.

The question is what kind of senior leadership UC has. If they've got a couple of guys who can rally the team in an "us against the world, even our coaches are screwing us" way, then who knows.

Only if you remind me of the circumstances surrounding the last time you guys played Wyoming.

Deal?

The OC took the Buffalo job. He's still going to coach the Bearcats in the bowl game, but you know how well that usually works out.

It can work out okay in some cases (see UF vs. Oklahoma last year), but in Cincy's case the HC isn't there to ensure the departing OC is spending enough time on his current job.

It's really anyone's guess if either team decides to give a crap about this game.

UF will lose by double digits..book it
Wow. Doubt it. IMO both teams have an equal chance of being in disarray... if not Cincy, moreso. This one comes down to talent on the field, which Florida has more of. Tebow will come out on fire. He may get out played and flat-out beat, but he doesn't get out-hustled. Unfortunately for the Bearcats, he can probably run wild on them single-handedly. Florida wins big.

In last year's Sugar Bowl, Utah had a very talented JR/SR laden team on both sides of the ball. They hit Bama with numerous wrinkles offensively and defensively that Bama was unprepared for and ran an ultra-fast tempo to boot. Bama was flat, missing their two best OL players, made a critical turnover deep in their own territory very early and before Bama knew what hit them they were down 21-0 in the first quarter. Bama had no new wrinkles prepared for that game. The Bama coaches and players thought they could just show up and easily beat Utah. A bitter tasting lesson was learned about being overconfident and inadequately prepared.
Break it down any way you want it. IMO the trump card in college football is the phrase "scoreboard." On that day, Utah was a better football team than Alabama. When a team comes out flat and unprepared, you can blame it on it being a "meaningless game." What it really means is they don't have the strength of character to pick themselves up after a hard blow and play a good game. That's only another knock against the team that lost, especially as convincingly as Bama lost last season.

Haha, I love how relevancy takes a back seat to hate on these boards.

Comparing the 2007 team to the 2009 team isn't even worth a breath. If you can't see that those are two monumentally different squads then there's no point in educating you otherwise.

I'll be shocked if Florida loses this game. Yeah, we Bama fans have heard ad infinitum the arguments about being uninspired. Clearly that was an issue. However, as Tidal Surge wrote, we were missing two starting O-linemen; and we were extremely lacking in depth. We couldn't keep possession and give ourselves a chance to win. Florida won't suffer that malady.

Alabama holds the record for the biggest blowout in bowl history... something like 66-6 against Syracuse in the Orange Bowl back in the 1950's. I'd be happy if Florida sets a new blowout record.

Between the turn over in coaches and Florida having lost its momentum big time, I can easily see this game turning into an oh by the way contest by both teams.

Florida should win simply by virtue of superior athletes at so many positions. But it might be quite lethargic all over the place.

Most UF fans feel the same as you do. We had a one game season and crapped the bed in Atlanta.

However I think Cincy is on shaky ground mentally and may not be very focused either.

Or they'll be seriously ticked off and release their frustrations on a Florida squad that thought the season ended in November.

Seriously, in my mind, the only way Florida wins is if Tebow has over 300 all purpose yards and 5 TD's, because I doubt the defense is going to be stopping anyone.

The defensive advantage in this game definitely goes to UF.
