Hey guys,
Some buddies and I are coming to Knoxville for the Tennessee/LSU game this year and we’re looking for some suggestions about food and tailgating. We want to get the best UT experience, so we figured yall would be the best people to ask. Anyway, if you could recommend any restaurants or bars we’d appreciate it.
Thanks guys. Here’s hoping for a great game!

Hat's list is what i would suggest as well, but if you're in for more of a "party" scene, and are worried more about atmosphere than maybe quality of meal etc...

here are some alternatives:
Calhoun's on the River...great view, not far fro the stadium, casual bbq.
The Tennessee Grill. Pretty cool spot, right across the street from the stadium, it's on the River, and if hit it right, you'll be able to check out the Vol Navy rolling in...not the greatest food. Definitely all about atmoshphere there.

Then there's Cumberland Ave. aka the Strip. Plenty of places on the main drag and off some side streets to get a drink or casual meal. The Copper Cellar is on the Strip as well. I might alos recommend O.C.I. if it's not too crowded.

As for tailgaiting...anywhere on west end of the Strip (near or around the 1st TN bank) there will be plenty going on at O'Charley's, Charlie Pepper's and surrounding parking lots. But be ready to pay for parking...$20-$30 in some spots.

and get there early. Go Vols.

Try to get a room within walking distance of the stadium so you don't have to worry about doing any driving.I'd start on that asap plus I'd be sure to come in a day early as well(traffic, parking).Have fun but I hope you leave the game unhappy :biggrin2: .Anywhere on the strip will be fun, just start walking and follow the sound.

you can't come to k-town and not go to Gusses Goodtime Deli. the best around, especially if Guss is thier. Tn. Gril;l and Calhoons great choices also. Days in Campus is the only place to stay if you have the cash to pay and you want to party before and after the game. Great atmosphere their. It has been an overpriced dump for a while but they have renovated over the last year and it should be much better but it's in walking distance from almost everything so you can party all weekend and you won't have to drive anywhere. good luck an d i hope to see you their.

A couple of updates for you. O'Charley's on the strip is gone and the Tennesse Grill is closed. I would think that Buffalo Wild Wings will pick up some of the college crowd. As for great food, the Copper Cellar downstairs is great-but small. Not a big fan of Ye Olde, the last few meals I had there were less than average and way overpriced-but it is a pregame hang out for the past and present football stars-if you are into that. The Market Square has a few good bars as mentioned above (Preservation Pub) and the old city as well. If you have a driver and want a dive/local scene check out Toddy's just about 5 minutes west of campus on Kingston pike (or take a cab). As for tailgating, if you can get on a boat-do it! There is a lot around circle park and the strip is always hoppin. Good luck on the room. There are two hotels with rooms remaining within walking distance of the stadium/strip. They are the Hampton Inn 279$/night and The Holiday Inn Select Conv. Center 214-261$/night. If you stay about 5 miles out it drops to around 100-120 per night.

The building for Ochucks is still there, but empty. The Tn grill has been closed for a while, may open again under new management.

The Library brings back great memories for me as well! I remember my freshman orientation when the speakers told all the families that if the children were telling them that they were going to the library every night, that could be a problem. Hehe. How disappointed I was when I saw the paper with the doors chained shut. I'm sure there will be plenty of hotspots for the LSU game though. Thats become a very popular game and Knoxville should be rocking! I cant wait!

O'Charley's on the strip closed after last football season.

Buffalo Wild Wings isn't bad, but it's usually very crowded. I don't care for the layout of that place too much. It's OK.

Now, if only the rest of the O'Charley's locations would follow suit. That would be a great thing.

You should try out the Carousel. It's a great place to meet hot, tall, exotic women. Those women will tower over you like you're nothing. It's near campus, very close to the stadium, and the women there are HOT!!!! Just a little taller than most places, that's all.

LSU fans huh?

Come by my tailgate spot, and I'll be sure to return the "great" atmosphere myself and a few other Vol fans that made it down, got last September.

Let's see, drive in on a bus, and we'll be sure to rock it, and break windows out.

Walk through our tailgate spot, and we'll throw beers at you, and yell the same f'ing cheer at you over and over and over and over and over and over and ov...... you get the point.

Then, and only if you and your team are REAL lucky..... our team will fold like an accordian, lay flat on our backs and let you win, all the while, us Tennessee fans will stand shoulder to shoulder with mouths agape, some of us crying, allowing a few hundred of you to celebrate in our stadium.

LOL

Just kidding buddy. Enjoy your trip. Go Vols.

Crimedawg, I'm serious. There's something about that place I can't put my finger on. It screams "Cajun." I think the LSU faithful would love that place. What's your opinion? :whistling:
