Suggestions for Visiting Fan?

Seems like I remember a picture of some LSU fans from last year that might actually make the Carousel a great recommendation.

Bars:
1) Downtown Grill and Brewery
2) Preservation Pub
3) Patrick Sullivan's

Restaurants:
1) Ye Olde Steak House
2) Chesapeake's
3) Copper Cellar

Pretty decent list of suggestions, there. One exception: not crazy about Chesapeake's. You'll get much better seafood (IMO) at Riverside Tavern (near the Women't BB Hall of Fame) or Bonefish (which is not downtown). Calhouns is cool for the gameday atmosphere, but I've never been impressed by the BBQ (especially after living in Memphis). If you're OK with a little drive, there is excellent food at Mango (Kingston Pike), Bistro By the Tracks, The Orangery (high dollar French cuisine), and Connor's (out west).

There is another "trendy" nightspot next door to Downtown Grill called "Sapphire." Eclectic, fairly expensive, and a great place to people watch. Preservation Pub in Market Square has live music and the most ridiculous selection of brews in town. Fun place, but REALLY cramped. There's another cool spot called World Grotto down there, which is an art museum upstairs and a bar/music stage down.

If you're looking for live music, there is usually a band at BlueCats in the old city (www.bluecatslive.com) and at Barley's across the street. There is always the Strip, with mulitple places to hang out post-game and hear some usually one-man acoustic stuff.

For tailgating, score a parking pass if you can (which you probably cannot). If not, get there early, bring at least $20 to park, and get as close to the stadium as possible. Oh, and be polite: you'll be outnumbered. :biggrin2:

Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip to God's country in the fall.

The Copper Cellar has a pretty good game day scene in the bar upstairs, in my opinion, although it gets pretty hot early in the season. It is crowded and rowdy, but they have big screen TVs and a bunch of fans getting lubricated before sliding into the stadium.

I'll also second KD's suggestion of Riverside Tavern. I think it's just a cool place with good food.

isnt there a place called GUS'S or sumthin like that? ive been there b4 and it was amazing

Yeah, Gus's is good.

I always liked Vic and Bills too. I used to hang out with a friend in the Fort before the games and we went there often. The Volburger was good. If you go late at night, you are likely to run into one of those lovely "ladies" from the Carousel.

Vic and Bill's is no more. They sold the place.

LSU fans huh?

Come by my tailgate spot, and I'll be sure to return the "great" atmosphere myself and a few other Vol fans that made it down, got last September.

Let's see, drive in on a bus, and we'll be sure to rock it, and break windows out.

Walk through our tailgate spot, and we'll throw beers at you, and yell the same f'ing cheer at you over and over and over and over and over and over and ov...... you get the point.

Then, and only if you and your team are REAL lucky..... our team will fold like an accordian, lay flat on our backs and let you win, all the while, us Tennessee fans will stand shoulder to shoulder with mouths agape, some of us crying, allowing a few hundred of you to celebrate in our stadium.

LOL

Just kidding buddy. Enjoy your trip. Go Vols.

Something like this photo below? Ah the charm of Tiger Stadium...and the endless chants of Tiger Bait...too bad they lost.

Are you serious?? :bad:
Yes. I stopped in for lunch the last time I was in Knoxville. It's now called The Campus Deli and appeared to be run by a staff with the average age of 15.

Maybe it is being ran by "The Posse".

Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like we have a ton of places to go to. Good thing we'll be there for a couple of games. I can't wait for the game. It should be a great game, hopefully with LSU on top!! Thanks
