Like Romo pointed out, under the new rules, the game doesn't end. It changes to a 2nd quarter when the OT expires. They just switch ends of the field and get another 15 minutes on the clock. There really isn't a good reason to want the ball 1st. It's a much better strategy to defer. That way, you know the minimum needed on that 1st possession. It could possibly even be a good strategy to punt .... if you get a stop on the opponent's 1st offensive series.

False starts and holding on the second drive was not Shanahan.
The team had no " one" to blame. SF lost it as a collective of errors.
