Super Bowl XLIV: Colts vs. Saints

Personally, I think Super Bowl victories should be used as a tool for measuring QB's, historically. It shouldn't be the whole thing though.

unfortunately, the problem is it's quickly becoming the whole thing to the average fan and the news media

interesting:

Onside kick, patient defense keys to Saints win - Dom Bonvissuto - SI.com

Williams got a reminder about the importance of being patient against the Colts in a surprise phone call from an old friend hours before the game.

"I want to take a moment to thank Jeff Fisher," Williams said. Fisher was the head coach when Williams was the defensive coordinator for the Titans from 1997-2000. "He called me before the game and said you can't be aggressive against Peyton. He knew it'd be tough for me to be patient because that's not my style."

The patience, obviously, paid off when cornerback Tracy Porter stepped in front of a Manning pass and returned it 74 yards to seal the win for the Saints. It was an aggressive decision by the Saints corner, but it was calculated.

while i'm at it, heads up to indy fans; the popular phrase for the next few weeks (from what i'm reading on espn and in the AP) is going to be "the NFL's Atlanta Braves"

Holy crap, i must come to the realization that with the exception of my 360 there will be no football until September.

Tom Brady. dude threw for 145 yards and one touchdown in his first Super Bowl win. that was his only touchdown pass in three postseason games. obviously he was the reason the Pats won it all. Kiss the Rings®

I see your point Nick, but lets be realistic QB's don't play defense, and I can assure you defense wins championships most of the time. I guess we should rank Jim Plunkett,Doug Williams,Trent Dilfer, and Phil Simms as some of the greats.

I agree with True Orange, and will add only fans that never played 1 single down of football in their life thinks a QB is ranked by the amount of SB wins. I still believe Tom Brady is a great QB,but he couldn't help his defense having more holes than swiss cheese this year. It's all about the D!

Thank you. Brady won those Super Bowls with an outstanding defense, the best kicker in the game, and the best coach in the game.

Wouldn't that award go to the Buffalo Bills.

Wouldn't that award go to the Buffalo Bills.

sports media has a very short term memory, often times the more recent one the best or the worse

that's why Tim Tebow is the "best football player ever" util the next dominant college athlete comes along

and why the sports world spent the last year saying the Steelers-cards superbowl was the best ever, despite the giants-patriots game the previous season

they've all pretty much already forgotten about the bills and their 4 super bowl losses in a row

Ya, Brady didn't have a game winning drive. Wait a second...

you're right, vinatieri made several good throws on that drive that got the pats in position for the game winning FG.

no but look at this:
pats:
with vinateiri: 3 super bowl wins; w/o him 1 super bowl and they lost

colts:
with vinateiri: 1 super bowl win; w/o him: 1 super bowl loss

It's all about Adam baby!!!

I'd rather have the Ghost right now. :good!:

So because he had Super Bowl winning kicks in 2001 and 2003, he is better in 2010?

If you had to pick one of them to kick a 45 yrd fg to win the Super Bowl, you know damn well you would rather have Adam V making that kick.

Meaning he and Manning can sit at one table during the Hall of Fame dinners in the future talking about all their pretty records, while Montana, Bradshaw, Elway, and Brady sit at another and talk about being true champions.
That is weak. A superbowl ring and MVP, 4 NFL MVP's a first ballot HOF and in the discussion of greatest ever. I dont see him worrying about what others think.
