Williams got a reminder about the importance of being patient against the Colts in a surprise phone call from an old friend hours before the game.
"I want to take a moment to thank Jeff Fisher," Williams said. Fisher was the head coach when Williams was the defensive coordinator for the Titans from 1997-2000. "He called me before the game and said you can't be aggressive against Peyton. He knew it'd be tough for me to be patient because that's not my style."
The patience, obviously, paid off when cornerback Tracy Porter stepped in front of a Manning pass and returned it 74 yards to seal the win for the Saints. It was an aggressive decision by the Saints corner, but it was calculated.
Personally, I think Super Bowl victories should be used as a tool for measuring QB's, historically. It shouldn't be the whole thing though.
Tom Brady. dude threw for 145 yards and one touchdown in his first Super Bowl win. that was his only touchdown pass in three postseason games. obviously he was the reason the Pats won it all. Kiss the Rings®
Wouldn't that award go to the Buffalo Bills.
you're right, vinatieri made several good throws on that drive that got the pats in position for the game winning FG.
That is weak. A superbowl ring and MVP, 4 NFL MVP's a first ballot HOF and in the discussion of greatest ever. I dont see him worrying about what others think.Meaning he and Manning can sit at one table during the Hall of Fame dinners in the future talking about all their pretty records, while Montana, Bradshaw, Elway, and Brady sit at another and talk about being true champions.
