Super Bowl XLIX Thread: New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks

Why isn't Kelly in the discussion?
I think one day Luck will pass everyone.

Luck will have to fix the gunslinger mentality. But it's possible he could pass everybody's stats. I don't know if he will ever win 4 Super Bowls but who knows?

A guy that I think, what could have been if he had a coach that cared at all about offense and helping him improve as a QB, was Cunningham. Crazy arm strength and athletic ability, and Buddy pretty much just put him on the field and said go.

Also speaking of Rodgers he will probably bump someone off the top 5 list by the time he is done.

I think Rodgers will suffer too many injuries to crack the top 5 list with the way he plays.

Cunningham was too far ahead of his time. Him and Pistol Pete came 20 years too soon. Imagine Cunningham running Chip Kelly's offense.

He does turn the ball over a ton. Which is why I think Rodgers will eventually join the top 5.

Yep. Though people that think that are complete fools. He's the best pure passer I have ever watched.

Let's not forget the great trick play where he fakes a spike then throws to the side to beat the Jets.
Retired in 1999 as the leagues leader in tds, yardage, passing attempts, and completions.
Also was the first player to pass for 5,000 yards or more in a season, also threw 48 tds in 1984.

The final game Marino had was a egregious playoff loss to the jaguars as the game was never close.

If anyone watches a replay of the fight, watch number 18 Matthew Slater in the top right corner when it first breaks out. I'm not sure what he is doing but it is ****ing funny.

We're going to disney world is a utterly predictable and cliche on response what are you going to do now after winning the Super Bowl.

There is one time some guy I think said I'm going to hooters.
I would just love to know who the hell called the egregious let's throw the ball. I imagine it's the oc and Pete is taking the bullet for him and the rest of the team.

New England Patriots' formation now ruled illegal substitution - ESPN

Unreal. Amazing how Goodell openly caters to his bff Kraft. Bunch of cheaters that will bend and break every rule in favor of the Patriots. People running the league shouldn't be spending time at the home of owners. With the treatment of the Patriots, you can see why. The Rams, Colts, Ravens etc. turn them in year after year and 31 other fan bases believe they get away with cheating. If the shoe fits...(it does). I'd trade a draft pick and a fine for 4 championships. That's hardly a punishment for walking away with 1 title let alone 4. Slimy dirtbags.

People like Goodell and Stern should have been forced to comment on the authenticity of pro football/basketball years ago when filing their taxes similar to Vince McMahon and the WWF. They may be real athletes out there running around but some of this crap going down is scripted. From refs blatantly rigging games to the league front offices rigging drafts. Patriots and Heat have 6 combined championships but all of which saw cheating and or help from the refs rigging the games. The Steelers last two championships and Lakers last few championships were all rigged as well.

I know pretty much nobody here will agree and this post is just gonna piss some of the fanboys off, I don't care though. I'm going based on what I've watched myself and the league's response in the aftermath time and time again. It's not like both the NFL/NBA have backtracked in essentially every playoff run/championship I just mentioned only to say following the game how wrong some of the calls were and admit the other team probably would have won if not for the wrong calls. Except that's exactly what happened. Good to know the leagues themselves agree teams are getting eliminated/advancing on the wrong calls. And look at the teams it always favors. Their golden boys. It's not a coincidence.

And I might have mentioned MLB and Selig above, but MLB is so poorly run they don't even have to rig it, so it's pretty pointless to call them out. There's no salary cap so it's already an uneven playing field. The bigger markets can ago out and buy the best players which not only improves their team but waters down the league making it even easier night in and night out playing against teams like the Royals, Rays, Brewers etc. As for their draft system, players can not only enter and choose to return to college after entering but they can return to college after being drafted altogether. By doing that, the team that drafted them no longer holds their draft rights and they can reenter again a year later. Wtf kind of system is that? And just because MLB is so poorly run that they don't have to cheat to get their desired results, doesn't mean umpires don't give teams two very different strike zones in the same game to guarantee their desired results. Witnessed that as well and it goes over about as well as you'd expect. One team can strike everyone out on what would be called balls for the other team while the other team is forced to serve it up down the middle and get teed off on.

Starting to loathe professional sports and the shady practices they use. I used to be on the owners sides with the belief that the athletes get paid plenty and their relationship is no different than any other employer/employee relationship. Now, I kind of hope the players get as much as possible out of the owners so they can put a dent in the empire. They're ones that hire these crappy commissioners like Roger Goodell whose punishments are inconsistent case by case and make no sense what so ever. I've never seen a guy make more clueless judgements. Guess I shouldn't be surprised though, he's clearly been bought off with that liquid gold cheese by Kraft. He's so bought off at this point that I'm pretty sure Kraft could offer Goodell a golden shower and he would take it in stride. Goodell's response to it all, "Please sir, may I have some more... piss?".

Seeing the Patriots not only accused multiple times but actually caught and punished, it's always going to rub me the wrong way that Goodell still spends family Christmas's with the Patriots. It looks really bad for the league. Think about your own life and answer this question... how often do you go on a which hunt trying to bury your family friends? On average, I'm gonna venture never. Now, how often do you help out family friends when they're in trouble? I'm gonna venture to guess plenty. So, why would you trust that Goodell would do the opposite? He's not gonna bury his friend(just like you wouldn't), he's going to help his friend(just like you would). Goodell and Kraft are no better than Capone and a judge on Capone's payroll. Despicable.

I'm no Pats fan but if what they did was exploit a loophole in the rules then that's on Baltimore for not catching on. If anything I give the NFL credit for shoring up the loophole before the next season.

Wow not every damn situation is the same no different than in the legal courts so why you dont understand that astounds me for variation in punishment.

The nfl isnt fixed but i guess like the tiresome conspiracy theories that the moon is a hoax its a damn belief that refuses to die.

The colts have blown so many times that even if obvious bad calls didnt happen against them they would still choke as they're notorious underachieving chokers. They're like the chargers but with a super bowl title, and more playoff appearnces.

Your comparison astounds me are your kidding me.

Wells report finds that New England Patriots probably deflated balls

Cool.

Maybe the league can take another 30th round pick from the Patriots and ask them for 250,000 dollars worth of money to wipe their ass with.

Who are we kidding, the NFL won't do stuff. Hand stuff maybe. But hey, at least they stripped the Falcons of a draft pick for their unfair noise advantage and fined them 350,000 dollars. That's 100,000 more than they fined the Patriots for knowing the other teams plays. Good to know the NFL doesn't care all that much if teams break the rules steal another teams script in route to a championship but they do care if some loser team plays excessive noise while missing the playoffs. The NFL does their best to make it scripted anyways so who cares if teams know what their opponent is doing before they do it, not the NFL. The last 4 Patriots SB's and last 2 Steelers SB's took every ounce of the refs power to give them the title. The truly sad part is that despite knowing the opposing team's plays, the Patriots still need the refs help to squeak by.

Anybody who has defended Kraft, Belichick, Brady and the Patriots organization, ridiculous. What's the point of following sports if you don't even care how poorly run and corrupted they are. It's not a coincidence that Goodell spends his Christmas at the Kraft home. It's why the Falcons pay more in fines for noise than the Patriots fine for blatantly cheating.

Other evidence included referee Walt Anderson's inability to locate the previously approved footballs at the start of the game -- the first time that had happened to him in 19 years.

Just like they made sure to be the first team to throw players on the field out of position and hurrying up without letting the other team know who it is to gain an unfair advantage(rule now changed), they also had to be the first team in someone's 19 year career to deflate footballs to gain an unfair advantage. Then they lie about it and their QB acts like he has no idea. Golden boy my ass, Tom Brady is an adult version of Justin Bieber. Just like Lebron will never be Jordan for having to run away with his tail between his legs and join Wade/Bosh to win his only titles, Brady will never be Montana because Montana as far as we know never needed to cheat to win while Brady has been caught cheating every time he's won a title. For Lebron's sake, at least he doesn't pretend like he doesn't know what a ball he's held a billion times is supposed to feel like. Apparently one of the greatest QB's of all-time who needs to cheat to win has no idea what a football should feel like, even though the feel was so different that it makes a difference on both being able to catch and throw the ball. Right, like Tom Brady couldn't feel the difference the second he touched that ball. Only a moron would believe that and sadly some morons do.
