Support your damn basketball team!

I'd rather not have the delusional football fans in the bball forum to be honest.

There's legit convo in there and they would just trash up the place.

Edit: But at the games, id be more than happy to see them.

I have season tickets. I understand your point, but it was unneccessary.

Ok, so you know how little support the bball team gets. Knowing that, I don't understand why you wouldn't want the program to get more support.

I could be wrong, but IMO, if we had sensible fans, there would be no reason for us not to have at least 16-19,000 in attendance for even the smallest of bball games.

Yeah, that's the impression that I get too, but if we can at least make them aware of the program, that's something right? lol.

Oh, I totally agree that the place should be packed out. The sad thing is that most fans are just Pearl lovers who think basketball doesn't exist in Tennessee without him.

I just don't think posting this in the football forum during the biggest meltdown in years would accomplish that.

Btw, I bought tickets for The Citadel, Florida, and Georgia. I live about 5 hours away, so it's hard to get into Knoxville that often, but I'm trying to make it once a month. If we could get the same from some of the other out-of-towners, that'd be nice.

Awesome. I hope I'll be able to make some games when I start my doctorate in a non-Tennessee school.

I saw it as an opportune time since the football forum was going to jumping and with it being the end of the season.

I'm doing that right now, actually. Made three football games and have tickets for three basketball games. Pretty much no matter where you go, the academic calendar sets up to where you should be able to get 1-2 each per year. If you're close (UNC, Georgia, Kentucky. . .), maybe a few more.

I'm not expecting us to make the NCAAs, but a lot of knowledgeable posters are, so you can TIFWIW. Point is that unlike our football team, our basketball team is probably going to have a good season and good coaching. I can't think of a better word to describe the fact that our basketball team gets minimal support other than "pathetic."

Nothing says this team is making the tournament like a 3-2 start.

They might make the tournament if they actually beat, not just compete with, good teams.

There are more than 12 games in a season in basketball. If you go by that logic, there was no reason for us to make the tourney last year. You'll start to understand how college basketball works if you watch a few games.

I've watched; and, there was no reason for us to make the tourney last season. The selection committee sometimes makes mistakes. Michigan made that quite clear.

I also only see 16 games that Tennessee goes into that they should definitely win this year; 12 they should definitely lose; 3 toss-ups. Nineteen wins, with no quality wins, will not lead to an NCAA appearance.

Like I said, I'm not expecting us to make the NCAAs, but we probably have a better chance at doing so than our football team had at making a bowl game. I think we'll at least get an NIT bid if we win 15 games. Also, I think the odds are in our favor in pulling off an upset (Pitt, UConn, UK x2, UF x2, Vandy x2, and Bama). Upsets will go far in determining if we make the NCAAs or not given our situation this year.

...isn't the basketball team expected to be looking to upset some teams but not much more?

They're pretty much already being written out of tourney predictions from post-pearl fallout (new coach, 2 best players leaving, etc)

That's the way to follow the program.

Tried what? Recruiting a bunch of knee-jerk reactionary & irrational "football only" fans to support the bball team? I'd rather see that crap kept to a minimum in the basketball forums.

I'm much more worried about them watching the games and supporting the team rather than posting in this forum. Luckily, we have enough sensible posters here to drive out the ignoramuses.

Hahahahaha I was heated that day.

Do you hate Manning after he dissed the Titans?

Then you'll at least laugh at this.
