And I'd say we're doing better. In the history of this country, as "God has been pushed out" we have had far less death in wars. We have freed slaves. We've given women equal rights. We given minorities equal rights. Scientific advances have extended our life expectancy. etc etc etc. If one looks at the most religious countries on earth, they are generally backwards "sh!tholes."

Yeah man the world is in much better shape 🙄🙄🙄

Yes. I'm paying for Hillsdale curriculum charter schools.
Charter schools are public schools are they not? Besides, if you are sending your kids to public schools, they are paid for by your taxes. Only a part of those taxes are going to a charter school (which in NYC have waiting lists a mile long in even the poorest of neighborhoods), whereas a parent that sends his kids to a private school sends ALL that money to THAT school. So you want them to not only be responsible for THEIR kids, but YOURS as well. How socialist of you. Why don't you do you and let other people take care of themselves?

They didn’t ask him not to pray, they just asked him to do it in a way that wasn’t a spectacle at a school event.

“The school said they had no objection to Kennedy or other school employees praying privately at school, including in the locker room before or after games. They did object, however, when Kennedy drew a growing audience for his on-field prayers at the end of each game.”

It’s an interesting case.

I guess since it is a public school he might have a case but I have a hard time siding with him unless the school has been inconsistent in it's actions.

You assume that you have the correct religion. You could be wrong. You make assumptions regarding the nature of God and Jesus for that matter based upon a book that was written well after the supposed existence of Jesus and has been edited and changed countless times. I am asking why you believe your beliefs are more valid than someone that subscribes to Islam.
edited and changed? countless times? I am actually pretty new to this, but I haven't heard this little nugget anywhere before. I do know it has been interpreted "countless times", but unless you are counting the mormons addition (which I don't), it is as it has been for thousands of years.

But it is a well known fact that Mohammed was a pedophile, so they have that going for them.

Calm down Giggles. "You do you" and don't rely on the public school to teach your kid religion was my premise to start with. You know... in my original post you replied to? You're the one who is coming up with random arguments about taxes.

So why not send them there instead of a backwards assed public school? You are shooting at the wrong target Chief.

Good lord you have gotten off on a tangent. I don't want to send my kids to a Hillsdale charter school. I still pay for them. You don't want to send your kids to public school, then don't. You're still gonna pay for it, just like I'm paying for the charter school.

It is a public school, but you’re right that public schools are allowed some authority over employee speech when the employee is doing their job.

I remember hearing a podcast about this when the 9th circuit decided it, but I don’t remember the facts very well, but from what I recall, both sides tried to be as reasonable as they could until the point that his contract wasn’t renewed and then bedlam broke out.

I think he likely wins given the 1A jurisprudence of the court since Roberts became the chief and the fact that they bothered to take it after the 9th Circuit ruled against him, but I’m interested to see how they get there. IIRC, the fact that both sides tried to respect the constitutional rights of the student athletes and the coach made it a more interesting case because neither side seemed to be clearly wrong.

I don’t know where you’re getting that. They’re not even close to the same, legally.

Paid teachers/employees have a different set of rights than students when it comes to school functions and there’s no establishment clause issue with political speech as there is with religious speech.

To be accurate, the current "Holy Bible" is a compilation of "books" (writings) that were written before or shortly after Jesus lived (most historians agree there existed a man called Jesus, even the ones that don't think He was God Incarnate) - I don't think any of the original manuscripts have been edited or changed - you are confusing the translations which are meant to make the book more understandable in the current society and language.

The gospel of PJ summary. “Everything sucks and I have no solutions for anything I complain about”.
Those are your posts. I actually do have ideas about changes that would make a positive difference. I post them regularly. Sorry if you don't understand them

For example, of I go against the valid wishes of my employer I think they can fire me. No need for this drama since I'm sure drivers Ed is taught everywhere

So no coaches kneeled? Explain the line between political free speech and religious free speech.... or more accurately free Christian speech.... because if he'd laid out a prayer rug toward Mecca after each game I'm betting nobody brings a case.

You give up your free speech when you're at work.
