People are stranded. No telling where their luggage is. Our niece had a flight to Myrtle Beach today, and they changed her to a 12-31 flight. She didn't get her luggage when she flew here(Nashville), and they are saying she can't get it. It will be in MYR when she gets home.
So, every other airline is now sky high, but what are you gonna do. Bit the bullet and booked a AA flight tomorrow morning $$$$.

So what’s the real reason SW cancelled all their flights?

Flew to NYC thrice in last 60 days. Most or all the Airlines are having issues. They've all got us by the bandsaw.

the weather might have something to do with all that.

Today's cancelled flights: Spirit - 100; United - 78; American - 25; Southwest 2688

SW has problems. Many people are having unnecessarily rough weeks. What is the cause? Why are bags flying without people?

Are we really asking these simple azz questions after what we've seen since March 2020?

Demographics of older Boomers retiring, the jab, paying people not to work during the faux pandemic... plenty of obvious reasons.

One of my flights from LGA was delayed 2:45 due to stewardess tardiness.

Looking around, there were employees elbow to elbow, some training.

Not sure the theory about staffing is real, as its contrived. SW just has issues. Wouldnt surprise me to see the Fed have to jump in and bail their rear ends out after this.

I was thinking pilots when I said staffing. I don't know that, but I suspect the pilots jump ship to the company that pays the most.
Yeah, something's not right from the top down.

Our niece flew AA this morning or should at 7:30. Flying to her father's home in DC. He will drive her to Myrtle Beach.
I bet SW offers her a credit for her missed flight, not a refund.
I'm seeing they used a different system than other lines when it comes to having planes where they need them. Also computer technology from the 90s(huh?).

I wish I could find a satisfactory answer, but things certainly went to hell in a handbasket since 2020. Even going out to eat is almost a waste of time. And, God forbid if you need auto repair work done.

I had been flying Delta recently, in lieu of Allegiant flights.

The discount has to come from somewhere.

Two times I flew to Ft Myers in '19, there and back. The airplane literally had to be jumped off.

From what I've seen there are a couple different reasons. One SW used an antiquated scheduling system, that when the storm hit last week and flights started getting cancelled put them in a bind. They don't know the location of any of their employees and have to call and talk to every single one and find out where they're at and what their mandatory rest situation is like.
#2 they've expanded before they had the staff to do so. They just got a new CEO who was head of a valu airline, they didn't do too well and look at them now.
#3 This is due to a quasi employee strike, SW had one of the most lax call out policies in the airline business, when the storm hits and around the holidays SW sent an internal memo which toughened it up. Requiring mandatory OT, requiring a doctor's note if you call out sick. Employees didn't take too kindly to this.
Idk what or if any of this is true, just all the rumblings I've seen on the inter web.

My wife's cousin flys Allegiant from Flint, MI to Nashville for Thanksgiving. It is a nonstop flight. This year Allegiant cancelled the flight less than2 hours before departure. She was walking out the door to go to the airport.
Luckily I could use airline points to book a flight the same day. Not nonstop, but free.

We had SW round trip tickets Tampa/Louisville to visit family and friends. Went to the airport Mon and it was a mess. We waited 4 hours and our flight was then cancelled. SW occupies an entire concourse in Tampa with about 15 gates. During the 4 hours waiting, I did not see 1 airplane depart or arrive from the entire concourse. People were frustrated and mad. We cancelled our trip. Right now, we are out about 500 dollars for nonrefundable car rental and hotel. I suspect we’ll get reimbursed down the line but what a mess.

I've flown SWA 3 times in the last 6 months and had zero problems on any of my trips. Some out of Nashville and some out of Atlanta. Unless I got incredibly lucky, their problems are very recent.

Skyvolver. Pilot and flight attendant software used to reassign employees during flight disruptions was overwhelmed and failed.
