SwampGas Poses a Good Question

What a bunch of morons. I can't stand how many people are saying "Bama's defense is terrible" or some variation. Alabama is giving up 11 points per game outside of our game against them. They would be 3rd in the nation right now in points allowed per game, discounting our game, vs a much tougher schedule than either Georgia or Illinois has played, even not counting us. It was our offense, not their lack of defense, that lit up the scoreboard. They have the most talented defense we will play this year and that includes Georgia.

These aren't football geniuses.

I don't think a single one of them even noticed the quiet engine that makes Hooker so successful: a really high-performing offensive line.

They also think we don't run the ball well...203 yards per game says otherwise. That's good enough for top 25 in the country, I think. And that's on TOP of one of the nation's most prolific passing threats.

Yah, most of these guys watch football like my wife: follow the ball, talk about the QB, mostly forget the other 21 guys on the field. Heh.

Some good comments, some comedy, some excuse making, but overall, a good thread/analysis.

How Did Tennessee Get So Good So Fast?
Read a few pages. I keep seeing everywhere "UT's defense sucks." Our run defense is 8th in the nation and held Gibbs to 112 yards. Yea, our secondary defense was almost last but there's some moving parts to that more than the "players aren't good."

1. They are on the field a huge amount of time because of how fast we score.
2. Playing zone after being up so big not allowing the opponent a big play.
3. McCollough out and others being injured.
4. Walk ons needing to play

Over on this Florida link, the offense excuses of why we're good are just as ridiculous they typed.
1. Xbox go patterns🤣
2. Luck
3. Refs
4. Hookers age
5. Haven't played a defense
6. Scheme

Hookers age could have a bit to do with it. Not from experience, but from a standpoint of him being mature enough to be coached up. We all know the throws he was missing last year he is hitting this year. Also, year two in the system for Hooker.

Scheme? Ok, I'll give them that a bit too. The way Heupel spreads out the defense and has one or more 1vs1 situations is very frequent during a series. There's a ton of moving parts to Heupels offense. He can run 3 to 4 plays off of one look and do it every 10 to 15 seconds.
The rest of that list is just sour grapes.

What isn't mentioned is how Heupel has taken a team of mostly 3 stars and coached these guys completely up. See my comment about Hooker above. He wasn't a great passer last year. The offensive line are absolute road graders and we get 4 out of the 5 back next year. The WR core is probably the best in the country. That also takes dedication like Hyatt during the summer catching 15,000 balls off a toss machine while all the Florida gator WR's were out living it up.

There's a lot to the success of Heupel and this team. When he gets four years of his recruits in, the organization as a whole will be a monster.

GB🍊!

Edit - Grammar police don't come at me. Trying to type, in the sun, walking around campus. Lol

I am really glad that florida missed on CJH, he was in their backyard and would be good with all the talent in Fl.

Could have easily lost every game this year. Could have.

"Almost losing" and "winning" actually mean the same thing. The first phrase is just used by the losers to bring down the winners.

Unfortunately, as Tennessee fans, we can recognize a lot more than other fan bases and its nice to be on the winning side, however it happens.

I am sure anyone would take 15 almost wins all the way to celebrating a natty!!
