SwampGas Poses a Good Question

The simple answer is coaching. Heupel has implemented a terrific offensive system and the players bought in to it. It also helps when a coach inherits good players. I don't believe our roster is the best, but Pruitt left some solid players for Heup to coach.

I’ve wondered lately what would the program be like IF we’d hired some of the names that at the time were perceived mega upgrades to Butch and Pruitt. How many times someone would say “Give me Mullen and let’s roll” or insert whatever name you want. The list is long. I can’t fathom the program being where it is now with anyone else. And I was one that said Huepel? Are you joking or what??? It’s really fitting tho that we didn’t get those big name hires and took a chance on CJH. If there’s a fan base in history that deserved where we are after what we’ve been through then Lord knows it’s this one. Thank Goodness we don’t always get what we wished for.

A guy with 6 TD passes and 7 INT’s is better than the current Heisman leader?

Bartender, I’ll have what he’s having!

I loved the post above too!

Anyone else see the CBS top 100 players in draft?

Levis in top 5, Hooker #77.

How can they explain that? Just saw the rankings, didn't see any explanation.

Their postings about UT reminds me of the misplaced dismissal of our strengths on the UK forums.

They are definitely jealous of our offense and have plenty of disdain for Napier's offensive scheme.
He better win next year.

These aren't football geniuses.

I don't think a single one of them even noticed the quiet engine that makes Hooker so successful: a really high-performing offensive line.

They also think we don't run the ball well...203 yards per game says otherwise. That's good enough for top 25 in the country, I think. And that's on TOP of one of the nation's most prolific passing threats.

Yah, most of these guys watch football like my wife: follow the ball, talk about the QB, mostly forget the other 21 guys on the field. Heh.

Go Vols!

You really think the O-line is that good or is it the scheme? I see Hooker make two reads and then run or throw it away. Half the plays the wide outs on the side of the field that Hooker isn't looking at don't even run routes. O-line only has to hold for 3 seconds, and they aren't really loaded with individual talent. Check it out.

They’re certainly not a delusional bunch like the KY and SC fans.

I agree. Most of their posters seem reasonable compared to the KY, SC and LSU boards. Collectively, some concluded that as a former NC winner and successful head coach, Coach Heupel is uniquely qualified to indentify and coach other great QBs to run his high octane offense. This leads to championships, NIL $$$, Peyton Manning selfies, NFL draft, etc.

Well according to that thread we have Hooker again next year
Good to know lol
I almost spit my dinner on my computer when I read that. It would be great, of course, but Heisman winners old enough to declare for the draft tend not to go back to the dorm for another year.

The jort wearing morans are laughable. Taking shots at our talent on offense. But honestly that’s the narrative now. Nobody questions Ohio States offense or Georgias or Bamas. Heck even Ole Miss gets the benefit of the doubt. But not us. Now that we are undefeated and our offense is the best in the business it’s time to put us down.

I love how now people are saying how Bama isn’t that good simply because we beat them. That’s laughable. I would be willing to bet that Bama wins out and goes to the SECCG. But yeah they aren’t good. Bama would beat UF by 4 TDs. The UF morans are as bad as the SC and Clemson dolts.

I am subscribed to a South Carolina YouTuber. He is hilarious on live streams and I have met him in person. Good dude but football delusional. And his friend who is a Clemson fan is even worse. They have said there is no reason why SC shouldn’t recruit on the level of or higher than TN. The SC fan acts like they should be always be better than TN. The Clemson fan is worse. He calls our offense a gimmick. I asked him on one of the live streams what’s gimmicky about designing an offensive game plan that exploits the weakness of a defense and gets WRs open. His response was it’s just a gimmick.

Our rivals and their fans cannot handle that we are relevant again and have a scary offense. And I love it.

Hell it's a good question. I've always been a Heup believer but I didn't see this happening in year two. It's is one of the biggest, fastest turnarounds in CFB history.

Right with you. I was way off on Heupel. I figured it would take a good 3 years to get a good offense. I never expected to be ranked in the top 3 and have the nations best offense in year two. And think, we don’t even have a full roster of the guys Heupel wants for his system.

Except Hooker said Bama ran cover 0 and some cover 2 all game

I have to believe uga hates it more than anybody. They finally win it all and immediately the Vols head back up top. Gah, I hope we beat them next week. I'm petty and I know it.

Great post OP. This dude and many others is FOS
Basically UT runs cover 2/3 beaters every play. You gotta refuse to play it. Cover 0/1 all day with all others combined for maybe 10 plays situationally. Cover 4 is better than 2/3.

They already can’t run, so I wouldn’t respect it at all. Not respecting the TE’s either. If any combo of those guys can outscore my O, again, hats off.

Heupel basically bets you’ll give in to conventional wisdom and run these “safe” D’s, and it’s a guarantee that the next play is waiting for that convention. Maybe Tillman and Hyatt eat up my DB’s one on one but maybe not. I know for sure they can run under bombs while the secondary over-respects the other options.
