Our only loss in 85 was to Fla down there. Tim McGee said that the heat and humidity was awful. So my question is; would you rather play the Gators at night with less heat, but more piss bombs flying. or during the day with higher temps. Which gives us a better chance? I know fans would rather it be at night. I went to the opening game last year at Ann Arbor, which was a noon kick, and it was hot; luckily we were in the shade until half way through the 3rd. qu.

McGee is correct. I say play at night.

The fans that do crazy stuff are going to do it whether it's day or night, they're just filthy scum. I had two large drinks dumped on me and some crazy bitch screaming in my ear the entire game. When I called the usher up to complain, he told if he had to come up again I would have to be escorted out. They could not pay me to go back there.

I was there in the 90s when we went up big in the first half and then they trounced us in the 2nd in a rainstorm. Till the rains came, I had never been so hot in my life and sweating buckets. Went through three Gatorades the first half. We need to jump on them fast, go up by two touchdowns and our D needs to stifle their offense. Take the fans out of the game early and put on more steam. Do that and it won’t matter what time we play. FLA is always a tough out, especially down there.

With our offense, I'm not too concerned about the heat. The defense has to play in it also and they gotta do it with less subs than they are accustomed to and at a faster pace than usual. We dictate.

I'm more concerned about the extra wind that a night game gives to the home team. Our offense is fast paced as it is. The cooler air only helps the defense catch their breath. Also, the energy in a stadium at night is hard to deal with. Case in point with the South Carolina game last year. Tennessee fans traveled well, but even then with all the light shows, fireworks, hype videos, and PA assisted chants, it can built up the other teams defense and cause our offense to get out of sync.

So, I'd rather have the day game.

My first trip to the Swamp was in 1991 and Todd Kelly Sr. had gotten me one of his family tickets. Andy Kelly was our starting QB. Since the players family tickets are distributed in alphabetical order, I was sitting next to Andy Kelly's mom.
This was a dedicated Tennessee fan section made up of mostly players parents right under the Florida student section. I just remember being soaked in piss all game because I was sitting next to our starting QB parents...

The last time we won down there was a noon kickoff . I’ll take my chances at noon, especially with the way we play in the early games on the road.

That place will be ready to roll 9/16 . They’re either going to be full of confidence after upsetting Utah or be scratching and clawing to save their season coming off of a loss and knowing what’s in front of them.

Lived in FL during the 80's - 90's. Most FL fans were ok and civil, it was the students that were the real a$$ holes, probably worst fans ever, even though all GA fans are really obnoxious.

All I know is I have no interest in going to a game in Gainesville or anywhere else in Florida for the foreseeable future. I'll stay home and watch the game in the comfort of my home. All of these stories sound absolutely miserable.

I was on the sidelines for the 1999 UT-UF game at the Swamp. It was at night, and the place was electric---the Vols being the defending
national champs and absolutely loaded with talent, Spurrier and Florida very talented and seeking revenge from their crazy loss in KTown the year before, the students and fans buzzing after a few hours of drinking....Amazing scene, heat not a factor at all, that I can recall. Night game is a better atmosphere, and less heat. We didn't play our best in that '99 game, but made a big stop late in the 4th quarter when Spurrier, as was his style, tried to ice
the game with a 4th-down call around midfield (more or less). That gave us a big chance to win the game with a drive--and time enough to do it. But stupid, predictable play-calling resulted in a loss. I think we had about 8 soon-to-be NFL players on that '99 team.

Help me understand this. I have read a lot on here about the piss bombs. Are they being thrown from a distance such that one can’t tell who did it? If somebody throws piss on me he better be a bad boy.
Idk how bad a fellow you are but you’re going to have to beat the crap out of about 20-30k drunks to find the right one or ones. I definitely support you in this endeavor and if you perish we shall sing songs of your bravery.

I think I've read this before and it still pisses me off.
Yea!

And the Gators won..........What the heck would have happened if Peyton actually beat them that day..........

I totally get the concept of someone several rows away and indistinguishable doing it, and there being no way to find him. I'm just speaking of the eventuality that somehow it was obvious who did it. If I turn around and some dumbass looks me right in the eye and says he did it, somebody's gonna need help leaving the stadium.

In 1985, there was astroturf. There are a bunch of stories I can tell about day games on that astroturf.

I think with the grass, you'd rather have a day game.

The "piss bomb" stuff has taken on a life of its own. There was a particularly nasty scene from the Florida student section in 1991 after the 1990 beatdown in Knoxville and word of Tennessee making fun of the murders that took place in Gainesville in 1990.

From that true story, it has evolved into Florida fans of all ages, bringing urine bombs into the stadium, creating more urine bombs while in the stadium, and throwning them non-stop from pregame until an hour after the game has ended every year since Spurrier has been the head coach. On top of that, this seems to be reserved for the Tennessee game only.

That environment, and I am someone who attended games pre-Spurrier, is not anywhere near where it was several years ago. We're lucky if we fill up the stadium at this point and when we do the fraternities and sororities take the whole first quarter finding their way into the stadium
