FOXNews.com - Virginia Rep. Goode Defends Letter Criticizing Incoming Muslim Congressman - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum

WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Virginia said most people in his district would support the letter he wrote warning that a newly elected representative's decision to use the Koran in taking the oath of office poses a danger to the traditional "values and beliefs" of Americans.

Well, any one of you subscribe to the notion that muslims will take over this country thru elected positions?

Some days I wonder why I go to news websites....

It's amazing to me how Republicans are so concerned with "values and beliefs" all the time, but when something like the Mark Foley thing happens, it's like crickets chirping.

really? didn't Foley resign? didn't Gingrich resign? Trent Lott stepped down after his alleged gaff. Bob Livingston stepped down after his issues came up as well.

quite unlike how the dems will circle the wagons and defend one of their own. case in point is Sandy Berger. William Jefferson too, even though his crimes were aided and abetted by that RINO Hastert.

as far as the OP goes. The House is sworn in en masse. It's only at their ceremonial, optional and therefore meaningless one on one swearing in sessions with the Speaker do they place their hands on a Bible, Koran, or UT Media Guide.

I will, however, agree with Goode when he opines that 1 Muslim in Congress is 1 too many.

of coarse all of this matters. we are slowly losing all our traditions to small groups of people who could care less about our heritage and values as americans. christmas trees are just the beginning. last time i checked christmas was a nationaly recognized holiday. we do not recognize any jewish, muslim. buddist, wicka, etc... holidays. so why are these small groups being allowed to dictate national policy to the rest of us who believe and uphold our nations Christian values? latest poll numbers showed that 97% of americans support and believe in christmas... so whats wrong with our country?? we need to stand up and take back what is ours.....

This is one of the dumbest statements I've ever read in my life:

“I am for restricting immigration so that we don’t have a majority of Muslims elected to the United States House of Representatives,” Goode said.

I give a conditional retraction on my statement if Keith Ellison goes on record as never wanting to see the US under Sharia law.

One reason why his presence bothers some is that swearing to uphold and defend the Constitution conflicts with his duties as a Muslim described in the Koran.

Power Line: Keith Ellison for dummies

Don't get me wrong either . . . Ellison has a whole set of issues and IMO is a shady character himself. I just think it's over the top to assign the characteristics of one guy to an entire religion. In my view, claiming all Muslims are bad because of Ellison is like claiming all Christians are bad because of David Duke.

I'm a right wing Southern Baptist Republican . . . but there's just no way I can support that statement.

As a Libertarian Methodist, I agree! :salute:

I gain more and more respect for you, GaVol... :hi:

Power Line: The friends of Keith Ellison

for those of you thinking I was wrong to agree with Goode's statement, check out the links in the above powerline article. Keith Ellison has some very strange "friends", friends who have an interest in seeing the United States under Sharia law.

It's a statement from a Virginia republican, what did you expect? Platoesque statesmanship? When the classiest guy in a group is a washed up stooge who used to married to Liz Taylor, it's unfair to set the bar very high.

Really...what about a 51% majority...any worry then? Lest you forget, Muslims oppose and despise your very existance as a self proclaimed Right Wing Southern Baptist.

I would worry . . . if there was actually an official religion of the United States.

I'd feel a lot better if some media wonk would ask Ellison this question: "Congressman, you have been quoted as saying you long for the day that Shia'ra Law is established in this country. That begs a fundamental question: Do you believe that the Constitution of the United States is and should FOREVER be the supreme law of the land?"

The formal oath (the mass swearing-in) is an oath taken TO THE CONSTITUTION. Unfortunately, too many on both sides of the aisle see THAT as the "formality."

That's exactly what Boortz was saying yesterday and to me it is THE fundamental question and really the only thing that matters.
