Yeah he's actually doing one of those create-your-major things in the College of A&S. It's a very odd concentration because UT does not offer any music business or music production classes.I'm a little critical of UT approving his curriculum. The music faculty at UT is great, but I can't think of anyone who is seriously educated in hip-hop. He studies under professors who normally teach orchestral musics.

But IMO, it doesn't really matter. I don't think his college degree would hold him back from getting a job in the music industry.

MTSU is still the best bet to go further in both careers. MTSU is one of the best recording/music business schools in the country. He would've started all years for Bball. It's a win/win for him PERSONALLY. I'm glad he is a VOL though! I graduated from MTSU but I could never root for their athletics.

no - maybe in Tennessee - due to the lack of that major anywhere else pretty much. 99% of the people that major in that at MTSU are scrubs and will never make anything out of it (everyone thinks they can be the next big thing - they have a better chance of hitting it big playing/making music to be honest) - same goes for the instructors in that major.

No. I hate MTSU with a passion, but they are indeed an elite music business school. It may be a stretch to say "best in country," but they are certainly in the top 25-35%; definitely top 15% among public universities.

Music business? We're talking about the recording industry major. If you want a music business school you go right up the road to belmont for a program that is 100x better. Mtsu's recording industry major or whatever its called is a joke. It's filled with a bunch of wanna be's who pirated fruity loops in high school thinking they were B.A.

Yeah, Belmont would be ahead of MTSU in most music programs (minus performance obviously lol), but that's why tuition is nearly 4 times as much. I can tell that you hate that school as much as I do, but regardless of who's doing what in it, a degree holder is in a pretty good position to get a good job. Among public universities, MTSU is right up there with Texas, Southern Cal, Cal, etc.

I don't hate mtsu. I just hate the people that come out of the recording industry major or are currently in it. I'm heavily involved in music and play a lot in chattanooga nashville and knoxville and always get wanna be producers/sound guys/audio engineers mixing the sound when I play that are in mtsu's program.

I don't know what they they are teaching them. I've had one reliable guy from there and he was already great before he even went to mtsu. Mostly its just guys thinking they will be the next big thing when all they've done is play on fruity loops with their crappy $50 midi keyboards.

I think its kind of a useless major anyway. its kind of one of those professions where you either have it or you don't. My friend made all his contacts outside of school and his degree isn't going to help him for what he wants to do really.

I guess the only useful things would be the business courses and pro tools/ableton training.. But if you don't already know a legitimate audio editor pretty dang well at that point, then you're majoring in the wrong area.

Coming from a music degree holder, I think you're discrediting their program a bit much. But I understand what you're saying though.

Yeah but a music degree is a pretty broad thing. I'm not knocking their whole music program.. I only really am familiar with the specific one I'm referencing.

he's just happy because he can start over with a clean slate since peal wouldn't let him play. Too much rapping i think was the issue.

yeah too much rapping was the issue. He should have been in the gym instead during his rap time.

Speaking of his rap career - his music video he just released today was weird - and kinda homo.
