Dormady was the starter to kickoff the 2017 season. He got hurt and JG took the job, Dormady never won it back.

Milton/Hooker-esque
Yes, Dormady! That was the name I was trying to come up with. Didn't realize JG played that many games.

Takes a lot of luck to win a national championship, as well as having a good team...I'd rather be lucky than good... :D
Yep, if OSU wins it all many years from now they'll talk about, remember after losing to the worst Michigan team in decades. We fans, that always know more where ready to run Ryan Day out of town on a rail.
Then we blew out TN, Oregon & Texas by at least 2 TDs+ on to the Natty. Its hard to gauge a bunch of mostly 18 to 22 year old's from weekend to weekend.

A few plays before that, UT faced 4th and long. The pass was incomplete, but the Syracuse DB interfered, giving UT 1st and 10. Had that PI not been called, UT would likely have lost the game and never played for the NC. Like the “stumbled and fumbled” play against Arkansas, it was one of the things that went the Vols’ way and led to the NC.
You forgot to mention the delay in the flag being thrown from the referee near the 20 yard line. Was at the game and it seemed like the flag came out late and then took minutes to get out of his pocket and to be thrown. Yes, that flag was pivotal in our natty for sure.

Yep. You can look back at just about any team that won a natty in the BCS era and somewhere you’ll find a few lucky bounces. Winning is winning and I’ll gladly celebrate a natty with a rabbits foot

And the PI wasn't blatant IIRC.
The Big East, the SEC and the NCAA all said it was the correct call. He clearly came over the back of the wr and interfered.

As for the stumble and bumble it should have never happened. The Arky center snapped the ball over the punters head a little before and the kicker kicked it through the end zone. The dumbass official called it a safety but it should have been half the distance to the goal line from where he kicked it with our possession. We would have had first and goal on about the 8

Maybe coach your DBs not to hit the receiver before the ball gets there? 🤷

Yep, and that team got a bad break too, with losing Jamal Lewis in the Auburn game. I did not think we would be able to overcome that with the Travises. That team endured.

Two maybe. But 4? Who?
You could maybe add Florida.

After Florida, the closest you can come up with is Miss St in the SECCG, but that's a reach. We went down 4 mid 4qt, but almost immediately scored 2td's and won by 10. That wasn't narrow by any definition.

It's a subjective argument. I'd say we had 3 close wins.

Plus lost Al Wilson for 3 or 4 games in November. Even when he played he wasn't full speed.

Goodrich went out with a broken leg in the second quarter of the FSU game.
