Take it easy on the kid

What pisses me off about the situation is...he sat on his ass his whole freshman year and got paid good money for it. This means we've got some folks within the program that's not real sharp. The Nico clan made out on that deal.
He played more snaps than Arch Manning his true freshman year. Nil deals are just like that. QBs get paid to sit and learn the system. Plenty of other places are the same, too numerous to name all of them.

Well unfortunately that time has past. NIL has already changed the landscape of college football and will only continue to do so, and there's no coming back from it. Nico is a kid who was given a lot of money to come here, had a great freshman debut, played average as his one year as a starter although leading us to the playoff if leading is the correct word not sure it is but, got beat by a better team, and let the money and power and in particular his greedy dad/family get to his head. While Nico definitely made a lapse in judgement by holding out like this, he doesn't get all the blame for it. His company influenced this decision just as much as anyone else. He also cannot be let off without any of the blame. All in all he doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting- I don't care if you're working for the beloved small town company that's been around for 100 years - 99/100 of us are gonna take the opportunity to get more money if it comes. Like @S.C. OrangeMan said, Nico Iamaleava is no longer a factor at the University of Tennessee and there is no point in lingering on it. There's not gonna be a whole lot more of these tried and true to their school guys anymore. The kids want the money. A lot of the posters on here don't get how much that money means to a kid who might not have anything outside of football and a family who's struggling. That's all I've got. Goodnight folks GBO.
Super smart post. I guess I'm just not sure who to cheer for anymore. You surely don't need to answer, I'm not sure there one. Thanks

Stay there. When you lurk, pay attention to the facts. Unless you are a clown looking for attention.
Facts? number of posts on VN (remember Gridiron? I do) dont translate to facts. But your post is why most don't post, as a personal attack is coming from someone thinking they are an insider.. Nice job reinforcing the obvious. If u'd like to test my knowledge of your facts - which includes me being Charlie Garners upstairs Roomate at Scottsdale community college, then going to TN also for a varsity sport (not football) please message me.

Oh, and on topic, Charlie chose Miami 1st, but had to go juco. Then was one of the best backs UT has had (Kamara too). Kids change their minds. But keep thinking guys like Matthew's and Faizon choose us because of their love for Neylands legacy. Those times are gone

But you have the facts, I guess

Long time lurker. I get the frustration, but let's rise above. Nico came from LA to Knoxville, and let's face it, for $. We all celebrated, but maybe like now, it was a family decision, not his. Most all off us fell in love with UT, exploring Gatlinburg, the history of Cade's cove or cat fishing with roommates with a case if ****** beer at bull run. He simply may not have. Money aside, the kid deserves to be at a place that touches his heart like Knoxville did mine. (I'm from MN)

May not be popular, but despite $, a certain place may not bring happiness to everyone.

So, what happens if David Sanders threatens to bolt for Columbus in December without an NIL raise? Do we stand firm or cave? This is a likely scenario from what I've read.

Thanks but no thanks, Mr. Iamaleava.

The kids playing right now are the only winners because the current model of college athletics is simply unsustainable. The $ expectations are rapidly escalating to the point universities are going to find themselves either unable to justify the expense of fielding a competitive team, or falling so far behind the curve that the fans drift away.

Agree with this to a point, seems like Nico hated the fan interaction. He missed events but didn’t mind the money. He didn’t want to hear stories of how you named your dog Nico, or now you eat Polynesian sauce with your nuggets on gameday, or take picture with your kids/you.

If you are the QB and the face of your University's football program, you don't skip practice with no word to your coaches. You don't ghost your coaches. PERIOD! That's junior high girlfriend/boyfriend crap. Once that happens, I don't care what the peripherals are, you're gone. There is no excuse for that - no "want more money" scenario, no "team not good enough" situation, no "coach said he'd change the system for me" BS. You engage in such bush league tactics - you're gone. End of story and you open yourself up to any and all criticism - IMO.

Last I heard, Arch hasn't/didn't take any NIL money until he "thought he earned it". Also, Arch is still at Texas, and didn't punk his team on the last day of spring practice. Quality of parenting often has predictable outcomes.

He’s at the age where he needs to become his own man and that includes taking responsibility for his actions.

He held the program hostage multiple times in an attempt to milk the fans, donors, collectives, and staff of as much money as possible.

If he did it because his dad told him to he’s immature and lacks leadership skills required at his age to succeed. If he chose to do it himself he’s selfish, lacking honor and integrity that’s required to be a good teammate.

Leaders lead.
Losers walk.
