Take us to the top Cuonzo!

Cuonzo has instilled a work ethic, intensity and effort in this team that makes me proud to say hes our coach. And the fact that he took a team last year that had zero expectations and put them on the verge of a tourney birth tells me all i need to know... Tennessee hoops is in good hands.

So beating Florida twice, uconn, and vandy weren't good wins?

Amen! CCM overachieved last year IMO. We were fortunate to hire him and if he can start getting more key recruits, he will take us farther than we have ever been ( final 4)

Read my posts I predicted we would do better than expected last year. I was disappointed last year.

That isn't what you said.

You said that Martin didn't beat anyone he wasn't supposed to.

That's wrong. He did it four times in SEC play.

And who did he lose to that he should have won. Quite a few. WE LOST FIRST round of the NIT?

The facts that many fans want to ignore is that Buzz Peterson had a better resume than Cuonzo.
CCM fans also want to forget that there was a massive black cloud over the program, and UT was very limited in options at the time.
CCM is a nice guy. No question he is a disciplinarian. I think his guys will play hard.
And, UT is going to attract talent. Facilities are great. For bball UT is not at a recruiting disadvantage. Plenty of in-state talent, and within 5 hours of Charlotte, Cincy, Atlanta, Indy, Nashville and Birmingham.
Please, please someone tell me just what is on CCM resume that shows he will succeed at this level? Cancer survivor? Awesome story, but doesn't make for a great coach. Did he win his conference at the previous level? No. Get in the tourney? No.

You want to give him a chance. Fine. But I'm here to tell you that UT can do much better.

There are plenty of people that share your thoughts. But there are 4-5 posters plus a mod in this forum that will defend Martin's honor to the end. And when they are backed into a corner with facts because their stories of Martin giving tie knotting classes and buying strangers lunch don't prove much they resort to name calling and personal attacks.

There were a lot of factors in Martin's hire. He was not my first choice, but IMO it wasn't a "bad" hire. The only thing I'm not sure of is if we could have landed a more high-profile coach. I want to believe that we tried, as it was reported that we were in contact with some big names.

But I agree, the feel-good Martin stories give him little of an advantage in basketball (although the cancer story displays his toughness, never-quit-mentality, and resilience). AND Martin did win the OVC in his last season, along with the OVC CoY.

C'mon bud, you're not an idiot, but just make sure you know what you're talking about.

Really? We lost in the first round?

And who was that?? I think the coaches picked us to finish fourth.

I'm pretty confident the coaches did not pick UT to finish 4th.

I'd just stop now if I were you.

His work at Missouri State would be something on his resume that I would point to. I would also point to what he was able to do with a team last year that was expected to finish 11th in the SEC and he coached them to 2nd.

Now, he hasn't made the tournament, and that I assume is your main issue (a legitimate one) along with many other posters. Here's what I'll say...if he misses the tourney this year (assuming Maymon returns) then I will seriously question him, and will have some serious concerns about him leading the program. However, if he makes the tourney this year...I expect the posters like yourself to change your stance on Martin.

I don't see us making the tourney without Maymon. This team is horribly challenged offensively against a zone defense.
