Taking jumpers early in the shot clock

You're right of course, Jeff.

Our set offense stinks especially vs zone. If we have a secondary break, I don't see it being used. You have to show the players what to do, then force them to do it.

Like you, I also notice the horrible helpside defense and lack of proper rotation in man to man.

Taking shots early against a good team or an average is usually a lost. They will make you pay, but of course if its that's player is hot and/or have the hot hands, that is another story, feed them.

Holly don't change yo philosophy mid season, its confusing to players, of course Diamond wants to run, cos she is a volume scorer, Mercedes and Nared had five less shot attempts and one less point total.

Quick shots are just like turnovers, especially if u don't have a person in rebounding position, play smart, that's all, plus quick shots they lead to transition baskets, you don't make your opponents work on the defense, now your opponent spend the whole game playing offense. WE have to make teams defend too.

It has been my observation that, many times,we have no rebounders in position with these "early" shots. In fact, our rebounders are typically not even in the paint by then!

Exactly because we are switching off on screens instead of fighting/getting around them and if we have to switch off we should very quickly switch back but far too often Russell or Nunn is out on the perimeter guarding the other teams guard for too long in a possession and it has to stop

All the counterpoints make sense but all assume one critical outcome: the early shot will be missed. Given the LV's shooting woes, I can appreciate the pessimistic outlook. But if a team hits the quick shot, then they can immediately press the opponent who has to in bound the ball. It goes without saying that you don't want Mercedes jacking on a 15 footer, 8 seconds into the shot clock. But, the situations I am referring to where Diamond, Nared, and Jordan I believe taking open mid range shots. In other words, those were actually good possessions for the LVs because they got their shooters open looks. Yes, in these possessions they missed shots (hence the announcers comments) but the problem was missing not the timing. And lets note, the LVs also made some shots early in the shot clock (when the ball goes in, we hear of course, that is what we need, she took the shot in the flow of the game; she got her shoulders squared; or just, Diamond has nice looking shot).

So again, my critique is more about announcers who feel the need to "explain" why a shot is not made, as though it comes down to an execution error of not passing the ball enough and of course, complain when a team commits a turnover or looses possession, that such and such players should not pass on an open opportunity and should play with more confidence. So, this is just not about LV games per se but the announcer-speak.

Its all a matter of the right chemistry (Team and staff) and the right drills practiced.

"Bang Bang"

5 players, 4 B-balls, Fifty shots in fifty seconds. Nothing inside the paint. Everyone shooting. Or 300 shots with a nine player rotation in 5 minutes.

I can show you the drill at practice tomorrow, Coach.
