Please stop with the idiotic argument that S Alabama had more or as much talent as UT. They don't. We should have beat them big time on talent alone. We don't have top SEC talent but we are far ahead of S Alabama and the other cup cakes we play.

Scout.com: Football Recruiting

Im not calling for Jones head but if we are gonna make excuses for getting out schemed use some that apply. I think Jones will do great but there is a reason our Dc was run off from the GA before. He may not be the answer. Oc I'll cut some slack till we get a qb but if we keep spinning the wheels on Worley and refuse to play a freshman then that's on the the staff.

I have faith in butch but if your trying to say they are even close to us in talent I got some ocean front property in Tennessee I want to sell you.

South Alabama had a competitor at quarterback who was athletic enough to make plays with his feet and accurate enough to make some tough throws. That evened out a lot of the talent disparity.

Butch went 4-8 his first season at Cincy AFTER Kelly left....He's going to get his "talent" to come to UT that fit his system and things will be ok

We have talent. But poisoned talent. They have Dooley stink on them.

They aren't what I'd call "close." However, the gap is closer than most Tennessee fans would want to admit.

South Alabama is as far away from Tennessee in terms of talent as Tennessee is away from Alabama. IMO.

Was USA's two qb's better than UT's??

Better than Worley but we have no idea if he was better than the other two. If one player made up for all the talent disparity and we couldn't adjust to ONE player that reflects worse on the staff.

We have an average of 0* talent? Or 1*?

I don't care about star ratings. Just look at how both teams played the game today. Tennessee is quite a bit more talented, but don't kid yourself and think that Tennessee has upper echelon SEC talent across the roster. It doesn't.

People who keep repeating this seem to think it's a good thing. It's pretty pathetic that he went 4-8 in one season at Cincinatti, especially taking over a team that went undefeated the year before.

When Butch was hired, I think most of us tried to overlook it as the exception, but when you keep repeating it and using it as an excuse, it starts to look like the rule and you have to ask yourself, "Were any of Butch's teams at Cincinatti as good as the team was before he got there?", and if not, what makes us think he can do any major rebuilding this time around?

He took over a non-traditional power whose entire coaching staff had just left, along with a boatload of seniors. They went 4-8 that first year followed by 10-3 and 9-3 (he didn't coach the bowl game, which they won). I don't think that's too bad.

Never said that. Ever. I just dont see GOOD coaching. Not asking for great coaching or miracles. We should have our 2nd string in by halftime against a team such as this. JMHO...

A coach is only as good as the people around him. At the SEC level this may be what holds Butch back in the long run. Our dc hopefully has learned since his last turn in the SEC. Oc with a good qb may be alright..

You shouldn't need upper echelon SEC talent to dominate S. Alabama. Hell, you don't even need it to keep games close with the best teams, just look at what Franklin did in his first year. Even now, Franklin hardly has upper echelon SEC talent, and his team plays just about everyone tough.

We look inept. That can't just be the talent. At some point our highly paid coaches need to have some accountability.

I actually do see better coaching on the defensive side of the ball relative to last year.

Butch's problem is that he has no QB (and he knows this; that's why he didn't name a QB until a couple of weeks before the season started), mediocre-at-best RBs, limited weapons at WR, and a soft, underachieving offensive line.

The LBs and DBs lack speed and defensive instincts - this is painfully obvious against good competition.
