Talent

That is ridiculous. Tennessee had 5 players taken in the first 78 picks of the 2023 NFL Draft. Darnell Wright was selected 10th overall. We are not a program that reloads. Primarily due to coaching instability, we have had recent recruiting classes gutted by attrition.

We should be better than what we put on the field last night, however.
I think according to the blue chip index Florida has more talent this year. Def do at some key spots, like coaches. Lol

The biggest issue is the OL. I really thought we would be fine and that all the concern everyone had was unwarranted. I was wrong. Just look at this here are the OL recruits from 2019-2021.

2019:

Darnell Wright — NFL
Wanya Morris — transferred
Jackson Lampley — reserve
Chris Akporgoghene — transferred

2020:
Cooper Mays — starter, currently injured
Javontez Spraggins — starter
James Robinson — transferred
RJ Perry — transferred

2021:
William Parker — transferred
Jeremiah Crawford — starter

What does this tell you?

We were much better on paper than Florida. I love Heupel but he needs to get his crap together and cut lose some dead weight
Actually, according to the blue chip ratio Florida has more talent on paper. I thought we had more in actuality but not so sure.

They must have thought Joe was better than he was (from practice/off season) due to our still sorry passing defense

I believe that they thought he would be a serviceable enough bridge to Nico. And he didn’t play that poorly last night.

He wasn’t great. But he was much better than most of the other position groups last night.

If the defense had only gotten 1-2 stops in the first half, we have a great chance to win that game.

I've seen several shows say we're lacking talent this year. There is no way we have less talent this year than 2years ago. The defense is not good at all and the offense isn't either..

We are lacking talent in comparison to the elite teams. We don’t have Georgia, Bama, LSU, Texas, or FSU talent.

Alabama is far better on paper than USF and Georgia is far better than SC on paper.

The difference between us and them is they have enough talent to overcome a rough start. We don’t have that yet.

We need to hit the portal hard at every single position in the lineup after this year. We have a ton of seniors and while some could come back for an extra year, I think for the majority of them we have seen enough. What makes yesterday's performance even more head scratching, given we have a ton of seniors on this team. Next year is supposed to be the rebuild year, not this year.
QB - we need an experienced backup for Nico
RB - Wright / Small likely gone.
WR - Bru / Keyton both gone.
TE - Warren / Castles both gone.
OL - Up to 5-6 may be gone.
PK - Campbell is gone
DL - at least 4 who are currently in rotation are gone.
LB - Beasley and Pili are both gone
Star - McDonald and Turnage are both seniors, play below average but could return
CB/S - we have about 6 who are seniors and while several could return....well.
KR/PR - Dee Williams could be gone unless he wants to return.
Heck even our snapper is a Senior

Take the loss of seniors along with other natural attrition in the portal for players who leave, and we may have to replace 45% of our roster for next year.

Talent level and Player leadership is 2 different things

Less talent last year maybe, (I don't personally believe that) but definitely less team leadership this year for sure

When was the last time we signed a 5 star offensive lineman> Munoz?
Some of us on here have noted this as a problem for a while now but were told it didn’t matter because this amazing staff would develop those three-stars. We see how that turned out.
