Talented, But ...

Add in no foot speed.

And the key element is ..... no real point guard.

Those elements aren't coached. They're recruited.

Pat has a team that's less than the sum of its parts because the personnel is redundant and because there is no real go-to player, not to mention no point guard.

Geno does do a better job of constructing his teams than Pat does, and his teams play much better offense. Pat coaches defense better, and I think she makes better in-game adjustments most of the time.

Pat had awful luck with injuries this season, and that hurt. Remember, this team was good enough to beat Stanford in December. But again, that's her fault for getting caught with inadequate depth. A few years back, we lost our starting PG halfway through the season and still got to the finals, and it took Diana Taurasi nuking us to keep us from winning it. Pat got a lot of the credit for that and she has to take some of the blame for this season not meeting her standards.

I have confidence Pat will rectify the problem. She probably started working on rectifying it months ago.

actually I have been apart of a basketball camp ran by pat summitt. she is great coach being a basketball player everysince I was 5 experience will come with time. when you have a young team thats talented enthusiasm, motivation, and all will come that is something you have to build. having a young team with what went on this year is expected with youth. With them being young and first year playing at a level so high thats how u become great everybody has to start somewhere. Even the greatess men and women. I guarantee this lady vol team is gone turm heads with the team they have and if they want to be great at what they do believe me I wouldnt go nowhere. Keep your eyes open on this team 2009-2010 noise will be made. I am a witness to rebuild

Well ya no doubt we have a very talented bunch of girls and Pat is, of course, the best coach around, but I do agree that this bunch is not a motivated group. I mean how do we become a five seed and lose to a twelve seed team. If it was me, which I can't talk much because I suck at basketball, I would work so hard to have the name "The Best!" Pat has worked hard for her career now its the girls turn to make her proud too! Ya they might of helped her get her 1000 wins but that was also achieved by the help of other women before them too. So they should of worked a little harder for that trophy and the number one position.

I think one problem with the recruiting is that Pat has not been able to sign a HS national player of the year recently.

Geno signed 3 in a row! 2006 (Tina Charles), 2007 (Maya Moore), 2008 (Elena DelleDonne, though she never ended up playing for UConn).

Baylor signed the top player in 2009 class 6'8" Brittney Griner.

Summitt complains about the defense. Well, when your team lacks quickness--THE essential element in basketball

not true.....especially in girls basketball....fundamental skills and knowledge of the game are essential..
you can be slow and play good hard team D and box out and run an offense and take good shots and win games.
This team did not play Great team D or individual D game after game for 40 minutes..no one seemed to WANT to take the big shot and was probably Pat's worst rebounding team..all of those things are heart and this team lacked it but will grow and be better.
