Aside from the obvious First Amendment concerns, the obvious deep state lawfare concerns, what does this portend for Patel? He's a national security leaker?

was he charged with leaking? or does he have to in the words of Pelosi - prove his innocence.

I'd say the bigger story is that a guy who as actively piecing together how the Russiagate and Congressional treatment of such was BS ended up getting investigated by the agencies he was showing were up to no good.

Comey was a leaker as were several others from the "Deep State".

If anything, this story confirms the need for major reform in the Intel/DOJ world
Trump did the same. All politicians are a filthy bunch no matter what party.

Its not the fact of the investigation, its the process.
a couple things maybe someone else can explain to me.

It sounds like the current DoJ is investigating Trump's DoJ investigation?
what the current investigation found is that the past investigation obtained information from members of Congress without Congress knowing?
The old investigation obtained that information using the existing processes, even though those process were not explicitly cleared to be used against members of Congress?
It sounds like the current investigation was able to uncover that information by doing the exact same thing, obtaining information from Senators and Cabinet members without those individuals knowing?
The two senators that information was obtained from this time were two Democrats?
Who apparently had information on the past investigation, as well as members of Trump's past and present team?

its confusing as written because they just use titles and department names even though its the exact same title and department names both in the current admin and the last. making it difficult for me to tell who actually did what.

Patel is also suing the Trump DoJ about this?

and if LG believes in deep state stuff now, I can think of no better proof that the deep state does not exist. nor probably ever did.

Good news. The findings are likely to intensify scrutiny of the DOJ’s actions under the Trump administration and could prompt renewed calls for legislative reforms to curb executive power. This development follows a series of revelations about government surveillance practices, including the FBI’s misuse of surveillance tools under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). What we have is debate over balancing national security and civil liberties.

no what we have here are the privileged class, politicians, finally being subject to the same civil liberty issues the rest of us have been, and now suddenly its an issue. but only for the protected class, the politicians, and only those of a certain political leaning.

Patel's lawsuit on this matter began over 2 years ago against the FBI. it only became an issue when it came out that 2 Democrat senators were also undergoing the same spying that Patel was.
