Talk smoothing genius coach H

When you have to defend yourself against every comment made then you're either thin skinned or posting a bunch of nonsense and doubling down. In this case both.
When Bearded vol pulled up a reminder of what I said about Pruitt, he had reminded me pretty well. I can’t take back on what that comment or many comments I’ve said in the past about Pruitt. I don’t defend my self much, I just see it as I say it. For ex: I had faith in Pruitt from day one, and I kept that faith until last year. This year my faith isn’t all there on Heupel, maybe 50%, but we all have got to have some faith. I went all in for Pruitt. Another ex: I kept saying and thinking that he could beat Smart, that Gator coach they have, and others. Well, I was very disappointed that it ended up the way it did. Defending myself? Nawww, I just call it out, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. I don’t never run if I’m wrong. I’ll take my bashing like Pruitt on that part and other things on here. I’m pretty sure I won’t be the first nor the last to get bashed. I already admitted that I was wrong on Pruitt and many other things.

You know what the date on that comment of yours that I posted was? May 15th 2018, 3.5 months before Pruitt would coach his first game at UT.

Like I said, new coach, same nonsense.

That was a long time ago… lol. I wouldn’t call it the same nonsense. It’s true though that he does talk smoothly, besides the others. I like Heupel, but I’m not going to go all in 100% like I did. I’m about 50%. What thread was that by the way??

Now, y’all know any coach with any smarts at all is not going to come in here, to Tennessee, with Butchisms!

We gonna revert back to the same old tried and true excuse game. You know, “we’re a young team”, “injuries, we’ve had 156 starters miss 2,456 quarters”, “we weren’t bla bla bla and as a coach, that’s on me”.

I’m not sure what all this means. You didn’t quote heupel making a contrasting comments which is what I expected. But I’ll add a comment anyway. This whole it takes 3 years to install a winning culture is bs. Every single coach seems to bash the one before them. It comes down to making great decisions. Period. It shouldn’t take heupel 3 years to install a winning culture or whatever. Now…should his teams improve over tome. Probably so. When there’s a coaching change you lose 25% or more of the roster. That first year is usually the thoughts from a roster standpoint.

It doesn't take three years, it's just what we tell ourselves when we end up going into the third season questioning whether the coach is going to get fired at the end or not.

Very true a coach message and mindset he sets from the start usually plays a big part in where his team goes over his time at the school. If you listen to the prior 3 coaches we have had it has pretty much been the same thing we going to build this and build that and when it doesn't work you can tell it takes it's toll on the team. It's been more about planning for tomorrow rather than trying to win today.

It's too early to bash Heupel. Also too early to sing his praises.
We will see what happens in the next 2 years on and off the field. I do think we will score more points under Heupel and that he will be able to recruit players when his Tennessee product has been seen and evaluated. However, one never knows until the games have been played. There is nothing wrong in being optimistic based on his previous coaching record. Positive thoughts and actions usually produce positive results. I am sure that negative thoughts and actions produce negative results. We have had a lot of negative thoughts and actions the past 12-15 years and we, for sure, have seen a lot of negative results. Hope springs eternal.

That's well put. I make a point to avoid negative people in my life, and seek out those with the attitude mentioned above.

That's a caveat to what I'm going to say next. There are those we called "negavols" over the last couple of years. In hindsight, maybe they weren't. They were just a little early to the party and realized what a train wreck cornbreadhead/slingblade whatever you wanted to call him. There were a ton of icebergs and he drove the Titanic right into more than one of them.

At this stage- if someone starts railing on Heupel , it's unwarranted and that person truly is a negavol. If Bowling Green beats us, as John Ward said "It's Time".

You have to admit though, we got us a coach that can smooth talk right.
I do have to say, Heupel does sound a lot more credibile than a couple of his predecessors. We've learned that being quick or sounding the part doesn't guarantee success. (Dooley was probably the smartest coach we've had in the past 50 years.) But it will at least cut down on the cringe factor we all felt whenever Butch started spitting cliches or Pruitt wrecked the English language and ended every sentence with "a'ight".

You’re right. You’re not going to believe this, but I’m sitting here in Oxford with my Tennessee vol hat on, and it isn’t a pretty sight right now. I am getting dirty looks from everyone here. I put it on this morning not thinking about where I was going. Good lord I have to be feeling pretty weird in this town. I’m only down the street from ole Miss, especially with a Tenn hat on, huh?

At least there isn’t any cliches that I’ve heard from him yet.

What a difference in a two hour drive close to Memphis makes down here. You go from Tennessee country and a hour and half to two hours later into Ole Miss territory. Oxford is a good town, but man, the stares that I’m still getting around here for wearing my hat. It makes you feel a little uncomfortable. With football just almost four weeks away, you can tell it down here now. I’ve seen ole miss jerseys, hats, sweatpants everywhere, then I come in here with a Tennessee hat on.😳
