This according to The Sporting News:

Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy talks with Tennessee, report says - NCAA Football - Sporting News

Any person who can win two conference championships at Oklahoma State and finish in the top three has my respect. Yeah, he comes from a conference that in recent years hasn't been noted for playing a lot of good defense, but he has decent defenses, better than what we've had lately, and his offenses are often rated among the very best in the country, up there with Oregon, only with a pro-style of offense. I think he should at least garner some consideration if for no other reason than he's enjoyed enormous success against Oklahoma and Texas, the two standard bearers of the Big 12.

I do too, volnSC. I did see on the sports ticker on ESPN last evening that he had been in talks with UT about the job. While he's not perfect, there are no perfect candidates. I think this guy could come in and help us dominate the SEC East pretty handily, as well as win the SEC Championship from time to time.

I'll take either him or Strong. Gundy is great with the offense and Strong on the defensive side. I like Gundy's offense style but his defense is lacking. Strong would provide UT what it needs most...building the defense back up.

His hairplug porcupine flattop is definitely second to none, but I still don't think he's the hire Hart is going with.

I'm hoping you're wrong. While I don't think Charlie Strong would be a bad hire, I think Gundy has proven more to the college football world than Strong has. The fact that he's won the Big 12 twice in the past few years speaks volumes of his ability to recruit well, especially when you consider that his neighbor just an hour or two south of Stillwater is none other than Bob Stoops' Oklahoma Sooners. He would give us valuable ties to Texas and Oklahoma football talent, though I'm not saying we would get a major foothold in that hot bed of recruiting.

I'd like to see Gundy with Monken as OC and Randy Shannon as DC. I'd also throw Kevin Steele in as LB coach/recruiting cord.

So I was wrong. I thought I read in a publication (obviously, I was wrong) that Oklahoma State had won two conference titles under Gundy. It did tie for the Big 12 South under him in 2010 as OSU finished with a 11-2 record. And I never stated that he's dominated Oklahoma and Texas throughout his career, though he most certainly 3-2 against the Sooners and the Longhorns over the past three seasons. But I will go to my grave when I say that Oklahoma State runs more pro style sets out of the shotgun while spreading the football around than it runs a pure spread option. Look at West Virginia's offense for proof on that.

Strong might have won the Big Least, but I'll tell you this much, he's not going to win the Sugar Bowl this year when he has to play Florida in the game No way, no how. And at least Gundy did win the Fiesta Bowl and win his conference last year, finishing in the top three in the nation.

Why would he want to leave OSU for us? He grew up ere, played there in college, and coached there. He's a legend to that school.

They never ran a spread option. But in their best years (2010-11), they ran an Air Raid offense a la Mike Leach and Sonny Dykes.
