Talks between UT and Mike Gundy on December 3, 2012

For what it's worth, the local confirmed tonight that the two coaches that Tennessee has been communicating with are Strong and Gundy. So, I am inclined to believe that one of these two may be our next HC.....unless they are not! We all know how that goes. Don't we?

What is the word out of Stillwater tonight? Is Gundy still in "in the mix" (CPF!) to come to Knoxville or not?

From the Cliff Notes thread:
"quote:
Strong believes he has an offer to be Tennessee's coach. And we have been told that he does.

Gundy believes he can be Tennessee's coach and is going to tell them something tomorrow.

I think Strong has wanted the job. But has Tennessee really offered the position to two coaches? That's not commonplace in a coaching search and how does that end?

Hubbs."

O' Lord, please let this be true! Maybe that's why the whole "Strong is totally gone/ Strong is totally staying rumors" are coming from. Otherwise, it makes no sense. We offered Gundy, who said "I'll think about it", and then offered Strong with the conditional that Gundy doesn't accept. Strong was both prepared to go, but also back-tracking in case Gundy does choose Tennessee.

There is NO WAY Strong chose, by his own will, to stay at Louisville. This all HAS to hinge on Gundy or some other secret candidate. Fedora is likely also a back-up plan...let's hope.

I bet a Gundy hire would get the "Uniform Discussion/Fashion" Thread a very much unneeded boost.

I bet there has been some serious powerplay going on with Hart. I think his top two choices are Gundy and Strong. He's got to keep them both the No1 choice in case one says no. Fedora might be the No3. Have no idea if all three say no who Hart has in mind.

Let's hope we get Gundy or Strong tomorrow.

If all 3 say no, Hart will name himself interim head football coach, lol. I can see it now:
Hart steps up to the podium, clears his throat, and says "I would like to introduce the next head coach of Tennessee football: myself, Dave Hart." Stunned, all of Volendom commits mass suicide.

Supposedly it's 1) Gundy, 2) Strong, no clue beyond that. I think we will hear something by Friday at the latest. Wouldn't be surprised if it's before that.

This according to The Sporting News:

Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy talks with Tennessee, report says - NCAA Football - Sporting News

Any person who can win two conference championships at Oklahoma State and finish in the top three has my respect. Yeah, he comes from a conference that in recent years hasn't been noted for playing a lot of good defense, but he has decent defenses, better than what we've had lately, and his offenses are often rated among the very best in the country, up there with Oregon, only with a pro-style of offense. I think he should at least garner some consideration if for no other reason than he's enjoyed enormous success against Oklahoma and Texas, the two standard bearers of the Big 12.
