They're awesome. They'll last you twice as long as a tank heater, if you take care of it.

Does it keep heating fast enough that multiple showers can be taken without having to let it catch up? (As opposed to "8 minutes, and you'd better have that shampoo rinsed out, because you're about to get very cold")

The rating on the heater should tell you its GPM capacity. Then just do the math on your fixtures. If it's 8 gpm, then you can obviously do three 2.5 gpm showers (or four 1.75 gpm showers if you have efficient shower heads). Then you got kitchen faucet, dishwasher, and washing machine to account for, but when are these all gonna be running at the same time?
