Can someone please explain to me the Taylor Swift phenomenon? They just announced on my local news, that her concert at Rupp Arena for April 29, 2010 sold out in less than 10 minutes.

I have three nieces that are crazy about her. I'm 38 and am into more of the traditional country sound. Taylor is more of a pop-country singer if you ask me. I'm not trying to "dog" her. Maybe, I'm just to stinkin' old to understand it.

The last artist to sell out Rupp Arena that quick was Garth Brooks.

Everything she is associated with has turned into a money maker.

Yup, sad thing is she's a good songwriter, not that im a fan but im also not a teenager. I just see this over saturation turning into a 'Go the F away please' deal.

I think you answered your own question with the whole pop-country singer comment. When you get fans from both sides, that equals $$$$$

nahhhh, she's not gonna turn into "that" type of singer. Miley Cyrus has that whole thing wrapped up. Now there is someone who is over exploited.

Im willing to say Taylor will become a kinda of "Faith Hill" artist, provided she maintains her wholesome image throughout her 20's.

My wife listens to her, and it's not all that bad. Im not jamming it in my jeep alone, but I can tolerate it on a long trip with her in the car.

Sex sells, make no mistake that's exactly what she's selling. She just has her sex appeal packaged with a wholesome image which allows them to market her to a much wider audience.

oh c'mon man. There's enough garbage out there already. Let one of em slip through without any scandal.

I understand the money aspect. I just don't get the "craziness" of the way her fans act. I still can't believe she won the Entertainer of the Year award.

I've thought back to when I was younger and the only artists that I can think of that caused this much commotion were.....................

1. Garth Brooks - Rupp Arena

2. Metallica - Rupp Arena

3. Hank Williams Jr. - Rupp Arena

4. Bon Jovi/Cinderella - Rupp Arena

5. Ac/Dc - Rupp Arena

Numbers 4 & 5 make me feel really old.

There would be nothing better than one, just one of these pop star girls to stay in the business without having there image smeared all over the place by some pictures, or a video, or God knows what else.

They've all seemed to find a way to either fail in that, or just fall off the earth and make Lifetime movies that no one watches. Just once would be nice to see a success story again, without all the garbage these girls do.

Im rooting for her to maintain her image as long as possible.

:eek:lol:

she is a media creation but she seems to present a pretty clean image for young girls...

her performance on one of the recent awards shows was not so good, but her studio stuff sounds good... I like the fact that she writes her own stuff.. more power to her!!

Should hear her sing live, it's terrible. It makes you realize how technologically advanced things are nowadays when you hear her on the radio and it's somewhat bearable. In live performances she's terrible, though.

She's a gifted songwriter, but an average (at best) singer. Based on the country-pop songs she performs and her somewhat wholesome, but slightly flirtatious image, she has a broad appeal... which leads to a larger market audience... which leads to more ticket sales.
