TCU drug bust

Patterson may be in trouble.

I live in the DFW area, and this is as laughable a statement as I have ever read on here.

Patterson has a ton of equity built up in this area and with TCU alums (I work closely with a few). They are proud of their school and are appreciating his no-nonsense response. He can survive a bad season to clean this up.

I have to say that even I love the guy and I am by no means a TCU fan. I also am impressed by the way the school administration told the local police to investigate and make arrests as needed with no discrimination based on status. I wonder how many SEC schools would be so willing.

It's sad they (the Police) would need such "leeway"...

Read some articles about this rather than jumping to conclusions and popping off from the peanut gallery.

TCU's administration was alerted to potential drug problems by concerned parents and students last fall. The administration got the campus AND city police involved together to investigate. The investigation proved to be fruitful.

The city police would not have known to get involved had they not been alerted by the administration. And, it would have been easy for the administration to simply hand it off to the campus police.

Don't laugh. While I was at UT in the late 80s, a murder (yes, murder) investigation was handed off to the UTPD where it was bungled. And, yes, a UT football player was indirectly involved.

The link has been taken down.

Current reports say 17 arrests, 4 of whom were players.

And six days after the test, (cornerback Devin) Johnson allegedly sold an officer $300 worth of marijuana. Asked about the test, he said: "What can they do, 82 people failed it."

In response to that allegation, TCU cornerback Kolby Griffin posted a tweet on his personal account Wednesday that read, "This rumor about 82 of us failing a drug test is false completely false."

TCU released a statement late Wednesday afternoon that said the school tests its athletes for drug use "on a regular basis."

"The comments about failed drug tests made by the separated players in affidavits cannot be verified simply because they were made in the context of a drug buy," the school said. Patterson declined to answer questions beyond his prepared statement.

Five TCU football players tested positive for marijuana and failed a Feb. 1 drug test initiated by coach Gary Patterson, a source told the Star-Telegram. Another 11 had trace amounts within the margin of error, the source said.

Marijuana was the only drug detected. Eighty-six players were clear.

Patterson ordered the tests after a recruit complained of drug use by players and turned down the Horned Frogs' scholarship offer, sources have said.
