The Tea Party Express has toured state after state trying to kick up a debate about constitutional rights and cast doubt on the legality of the recently passed health care overhaul, all with an eye toward the 2010 elections. But while organizers have held the tour as a way to stay front-and-center as a political force, the rallies have also attracted the kinds of mistruths, exaggerations and conspiracy theories that make Tea Party leaders cringe.

FOXNews.com - Tea Party Rallies Remain a Cauldron for Conspiracy Theories

I'm not sure how many of you identify with the Tea Party peeps, but FWIW, a lot of quotes in the article are strikingly similar to some of the ideas floated here.

all depends on how you look at it, I mean were the Sons of Liberty a bunch of drunk terrorists, or were they revolutionaries that were tired of opression and struck back against tyrannical government.

in england they were viewed as the first,

in the colonies they were viewed as the second

what they stood for and their actions did not change, it was the light that was put on them.

Ok, I'll draw the line like I did with the idiot surgeon who demanded Obama's birth cirtificate.

I no way shape or form should be even bring up that the looney doc or the tea party people are in any way like the founders.

as the article states, they are no more a part of the true movement than the fringe who paraded around with W=Nazi/War Criminal/baby killer signs to protest the Iraq war.

i was merely trying to draw a connection about how things are protrayed, its all based upon the agenda of the reporter

The founders were not considered extraordinary in their time. History has proven them, over time, to be extraordinary.

the ones involved knew what they were doing was extraordinary. Whether the people had a clue is a different story but the framers knew

The founders started a country........... tea party........ come on!

When they started out, they had no idea that they would even succeed. They would have been executed if the war had failed.

They risked everything for us all and we just piss on their idea of what this country should be. I hope when we all make it to Heaven, the forefathers are standing in line handing out *****-slaps to the ones who flushed this country down the drain.

Exactly, the founders risked every thing for ultimate gain.... tea party people are complaining about taxes.

No comparison whatsoever. All this end of the world stuff will be an after thought when November rolls around.

Really? You have a cite for that claim?

The facts seem to suggest that the founders were slave-owning elite trying to dodge taxes from an overland empire.

I'm certainly happy with the result, but trying to add after-the-fact justification (to justify the ends) has always struck me as a little bizarre.

read John Adams bio and his letters to Jefferson. Many knew what they were doing

Are you referring to the McCullough book? Can you tell me exactly where he refers to Adams' vision of the modern-day USA?

yes and probably not since I don't feel the need to go back thru it to dig up quotes for you. The question was whether they knew what they were doing/creating was extraordinary and the answer is yes (based on what I've read)
