Team improvement

1. We have a defense now

2. RBs are hitting the hole, running N and S

3. We are getting better at perimeter blocking with WRs, seeing improvement in route running and catching every week.

4. D line is showing flashes of a pass rush.

5. Cbs are miles ahead of where they were a year ago, a bunch of young talent improving each week.

6. The amount of missed assignments and confusion in the d backfield has decreased significantly.

7. We are creating turnovers weekly

8. Special teams have been pretty consistent and we are taking advantage of field position

9. We aren't quitting in the second half or giving up when adversity hits.

10. We are learning to win close games, believe we would have laid down last year and lost to the jags.

Thinks we must correct

1. Worley is a detriment to our offense, we could have scored two more tds had he not made costly turnovers and lost all of our momentum going into the second half. I just believe Worley is going to cost us some games this year, its obvious he isn't the guy.

2. DE is killing us on the perimeter, we have to learn contain. These older guys have some bad habits and continually hit it up inside.

3. Can we stop a 10 yard slant on Defense? I mean we know its coming and we still cant stop it

4. We have HUGE gaps in the middle of the field on defense every play, this must be fixed ASAP or we will be destroyed by the SEC.

I think most of our problems are correctable except for qb. We have to do something at qb or we will struggle the rest of the year. We are a qb away from going to a bowl this year imo.

The d and palardy for me but my god they were both so bad how could they not be improved????? Now how much better they get by year end is what I'm looking for.

Off and in game decision making and adjustments are the same at best n that's why we still sux...

It obvious cbj is running his off system instead of modifying it to the teams strength ie rich rod at Mich. I hope for the sake of my beloved university it turns out better.

Personally, my favorite thing I've seen all year is whenever a defensive player makes a big play, AJ and a bunch of other guys are always there to give him a slap on the helmet and little celebration. That's what the great teams in the 90's used to do, and I like that I'm seeing that. This defense might get gashed, but they're much more of a unit than we've had probably since 2007.

i think everything has looked better from week to week compared to the first week of the season...wish we wouldve put that game away yesterday instead of screwing around though. Even worley has shown flashes of improvement although if it were my way wed have already burned both redshirts by now

People that there aren't seeing offensive improvement are crazy. First all Worley didn't have many good plays in any of the first three games much less a good game. In the last two games he has looked better in the second half of Florida and first half of South Ala. We weren't doing anything the first three games. Worley and the offense in general are showing some signs. Now I'm no different than anyone else. I'm frustrated as hell. But we're are seeing some signs. Maybe just maybe Worley and these young bunch of receivers are started to get more comfortable together. We need to put a full game together. And our defense needs to get stops on third down.

Worley is starting to get comfortable and adjusting to the speed of the game. The interception before the half was not his fault. The receiver stopped his cut.

Defense had pass rush at the end of the game.

Special teams are better.

Hard to run on Tennessee between the tackles.

They were better on the edge against SAB.

They play hard.

I am encouraged and believe help is on the way. Jones has some good players coming in next year. This is going to the first good recruiting class Tennessee has had in years.

Another thing people need think about at no point with any of the other coaching changes did we have a no experience at receiver or qb. Bray didnt start until the Memphis game and we had D Moore and G jones both senoirs and remember just how bad simms was. I mean damn. I don't care how good these guys are supposed to be. You can't throw a bunch of guys who have never played in actual games and expect immediate greatness. Especially at receiver and Qb. We are gonna be fine.

Palardy is better. Sapp is an upgrade at LB, probably should have always been playing. Neal has improved. Cameron Sutton doing very well at CB for a true freshmen. Jalen Reeves Maybin starting to make plays on special teams.

No doubt QB is a big question. Last year to this year, there has been no improvement. We're worse at QB. But that's what even the most optimistic of us should have expected this year.

Yesterday I felt like we saw flashes of improvement with Worley. For the first time this year, Worley seemed to find a rhythm with receivers at times. The success at the running game helped a lot with that, and so did some pretty good blocking that gave him some time. But he was reading and making good choices and taking chances and generally not settling for the throws where he struggles. Then we'd see a big mistake and people cursed and drank more and got more pissed, and some even posted threads on VolNation and broke their TVs and ran outside their trailers in search of a cat fer a good kicking.

I think it is progress. I feel like some throws yesterday were even excellent. Fewer balls seemed to hit the dirt or sail too high or behind the receivers. Did he do some of that yesterday? Hell yes, and I pity the cats that suffered.

Others have pointed out the bright spots as well. Palardy. The attack on kickoffs is a LOT better this year. The run game -- wow. The young bucks in the secondary stepping up and playing great football and making clutch plays. Extremely impressed.

The biggest improvement, to me, is the will to win. It would have been easier to lose yesterday. The easy route, the lazy route, and the loser mentality route would have been to lay down when it was all on the line. Losers say, "It's over," and they quit. Losers would have let USA score and take it to OT and maybe win, maybe not. Losers would have laid down and depended on the teammates on the other side of the ball to play harder. Nope. We won. We won the freaking game when winning became uncertain. That's huge, especially in a year when we've lost major talent and have a team full of players and coaches who are learning how to work together in all aspects of the game, on and off the field. It's huge, considering a lot of the players were on a team last year that became accustomed to the loser mentality.

I think the kicking game is much improved and interior line appears to be playing much better than last year.

Less dumb penalties like substitution infractions and personal fouls.

Much improved kicking game

DB play had improved

Neil is running North/South

That is what I see so far

It's really hard to judge improvements because the last two coaches were Dooley and Sunseri. Seriously, the Orange Dog would have been an upgrade. Defense is better. Special teams are better. So the two phases Dooley and Sunseri directly handled are, surprise, improved.

Do we look on a trajectory to be "in the hunt, in the mix" again? That's the real question, and I expected to feel good about that answer after five games this year.

I don't.

Maybe that was naive, but Butch had me on the Kool-Aid. There is still a lot of football to be played, and it is clear if we win November, this will be a heckuva year for this team. Butch, at least, is a guy I feel better about taking my lumps with as opposed to the Bamboo Farmer and the Guy Who Got Fired Even Sooner Than I Said He Would.

Agreed. We don't make the mental errors we used to. I think we will be a program that does a good job of hanging onto the football too and letting the other guys mistake themselves to a loss once Jones gets his guys.
