They don't quarantine players with the flu for more than a day or two. They get Tami-flu and are back real quick. With the Rona, they go into lockdown for at least 2 weeks.

Yea, pretty sure the contagious period for the flu is much shorter. Plus, there is a vaccine, which I’m sure they all get. It doesn’t mean they can’t get the flu, but it certainly helps mitigate it.

I know a kid that tested positive for covid 5 weeks ago and has no symptoms. Still can’t pass out with a negative test.

If a player does that there entire year is completely shot

I am betting we don’t play college sports this year

There's a real good chance this great recruiting class never plays a game for the Vols. That's very depressing

Statistically speaking per the CDC's report from a couple weeks ago, the flu is more deadly if you are under 50 than Covid-19

But that player will miss valuable time. What happens when it's 2 or 3 players? This stuff is way more contagious than the flu.
Are we sure about that? As of now, my county and the county over had more flu cases at this time last year than covid now. Not trying to start a political debate, btw.

Yes, we're 100% sure about that. That's the entire premise of it being a pandemic.
Is it possible that the flu (although it appears to change slightly between seasons) has been around long enough to develop some herd immunity whereas the COVID is relatively new with little herd immunity such that it appears more contagious?

Impossible to say either way because the flu has been around forever

Those players won’t, but the other players can. No different than if one of them got the flu.

The flu is more deadly but the Coronavirus spreads way more easily which is why it’s considered a huge threat worldwide.

I’ll be completely shocked if there’s football and basketball going on.

I'm not giving up hope yet. I think the scary edge has dulled, and maybe they can come up with a way to play the games.

The world can’t stay quarantined forever so some sustainable type of response is going to have to become the norm. Maybe quarantine the high risk folks until a vaccine is created and everybody else takes their chances since COVID hasn’t to date proven to be deadly to the young and healthy.

I agree totally with this BUT think about what happens in terms of competitive Balance.

what happens when Fulky and James
Test positive right being the NCAA tourney and the other teams are full strength? Just bad luck like the flu bug running thru the team ?

Fans will be ready for college and professional football this fall.

I think it is too early to predict whether the 2020-2021 college basketball season will take place.

That’s likely the answer but the integrity of the game could be greatly changed with some teams losing more players than others
Would you cancel the season due to your scenario? Injury and illness pre-COVID created the same inequities. Life isn’t ever guaranteed to be fair

Listen, I want this season to happen as much as the next person. In fact, I’ve been looking forward to it since our incoming freshman signed on the dotted line. I‘m not really worried about the players, but what about the other people they come into contact with? Coach Barnes and other athletic personnel may be old enough or have complicating conditions that would endanger their lives.
‘Think about their family members who they might come into contact with during the season. How about that classmate who has a heart condition, or asthma, or diabetes?
Their professors won’t necessarily be spring chickens themselves.
Unless the season can be played in a “bubble” and no fans attend the games, I honestly can’t see how the season can occur.
Perhaps the virus will mutate into a form that is less lethal and transmissive, or maybe a miracle will occur and we will have a working vaccine by October. Maybe there won’t be a second wave coming during the fall and winter flu season.
I hope so, but the odds are against it.
