Team News (current roster)

Not a surprise at all about Aidoo. I know a lot of people on here have been very high on him, but I felt like he needed some refinement. Think he'll be really good with time, but he needs some training first (as do most freshmen).

Love what I'm hearing about BHH and QD. If QD can actually come in and contribute immediately, that would be awesome.

Not sure if Chandler would actually stay two years, but could you imagine if he did? Assuming that wouldn't mess things up with BJ Edwards coming in, that would give Edwards a year to learn and come off the bench and not HAVE to be the main ball handler as a true freshman, too.

JJJ, it is what it is. He's been hurt pretty much since he's been at UT. IF he could ever stay healthy, he'd be great. But even banged up, he's a solid contributor.
I'm with you on Aidoo. I suggested the same thing, that he isn't an instant plug and play kid. That idea was met with some contention by a few people who like to set themselves up for disappointment, and even by some who should know better.

The respective reviews on Diboundje and Mashack are probably the opposite of what many people may have expected. Many expected Mashack to come in and play some serious minutes and be a bit more more advanced while Diboundje was a potential redshirt candidate.

Basilio expounding on the BHH info on air, right now. Says his attitude is driving the staff crazy, he fancies himself a guard, and his conditioning isn't up to par, though the believe he'll get there.

Nothing earth-shattering, and the kinds of rumors that followed his recruitment.

Basilio also stating that the staff believes Chandler is a 2-yr guy, mostly doe to his size. I have wondered this, myself, too, but his size is unlikely to considerably change with another year, so I've sort of discounted that excuse as wishful thinking.

Man if we get Chandler for 2 years we'll be a very good team for awhile to come.

I think once the dust settles we could see Mashack and Diboundje really pushing this class to really be something special. I thought Aidoo was a year 2 or year 3 type guy, to me he's Kyle but (hopefully) the Kyle we could have had with a RS season to figure it out.

If BHH wants to run guard I'd use that to motivate his conditioning. Probably wants to be a Kevin Durant type of player. Excited to see this team on the court, hopefully JJJ & Fulky are fully healthy once it's time to get on the court.

We’ve beat the “first round picks have to go” theory to death, but if there’s one position that a top talent might benefit from staying an additional year under CRB it would have to be PG.

I think Chandler stays one year and declares for the draft.

He’ll be drafted due to his quickness and ability to create plays for his teammates.

disappointing news on Aidoo and JJJ

will we spend this year whining over JJJ injury like we did Fulky last year?

JJJ is going to need to have a great year for TN to have a great year Nov-March. But differences are that there weren’t many options behind Fulk and Fulk’s injuries kept increasing as the season toiled on. Plus his initial issue out of the gate was COVID which took away his off season weight gain and conditioning and he never overcame the setback.

If JJJ can still be a glue guy then his wrist surgery won’t be as much of an issue. I wonder if it is his dominant hand (which could create season long scoring issues).

Hopefully if he’s not 100% as the season begins then the devopment of some newcomers will be accelerated. Last year the young players had most of their off-season development time eliminated.

So ideally, if JJJ is not 100% out of the gate, he will be as the season hits the late season grind and the ensuing post season. He’ll certainly be motivated as I think he’d like to be able to put his game on display and get to an NBA roster in 2022 rather than in 2023.

He should learn the Admiral Schofield story. He resisted playing where he was needed at the start of his career. He eventually listened to his coaches, was ultimately able to play either inside out or outside in, and had a legendary career.

His size isn’t going to change so that reasoning makes zero sense what so ever
That may or may not be true, I've known multiple people that have grown an inch or 2 after high school. I grew an inch after I graduated and finally was able to gain some weight, also. Which will be able to help KC, especially considering he will be in an elite college strength and conditioning program.
Still, I think Chandler will be one and done, but I hope not

Btw, I also thought Derrick Walker was going to be Derrick Coleman 2.0 and just like VQ, I was dead wrong

It’s possible, but not likely and also not a very intelligent strategy either to be banking on growing another inch or two after he gets to college.

It was fortunate timing though that KC stands to accumulate a nice chunk of change with N-I-L. He might be the first UT SA to strike huge deals unless somebody emerges from the football roster this fall. N-I-L revenue availability increases the chances of a sophomore year. KC has the potential to be the first pulling down 7 figures while at UT.

Well, there aren’t many of our players, past or current, that you don’t envision the absolute ceiling as their most likely career outcome. Suffice to say that you are blissfully credulous in terms of our players’ futures.

Eternal optimist, can't help it. Although, the football teams of the last 20 years have destroyed that in that sport

Yeah, I'm going to attempt to refrain from buying in on Basilio's wishful thinking. Chandler is very likely gone after this season. We had similar conversations about Springer and Keon needing an extra year of seasoning under Barnes, but the most likely scenario is Chandler is a first round pick and he will go. I worked myself up about last year's guards staying another year and getting excited, not going to make that same mistake again.

I am not sure that I would refer to it as a strategy. He either grows or he doesn't.

I don't think it's strictly about size. It will depend on other guards who enter the draft and how consistent he was in his freshman year. If he is what we hope he is, then he will most likely be one and done.

And to be fair, in terms of their development, those of us who believed, at this time, last year, that one or both of Keon and Jaden wouldn't be ready after one year, weren't technically wrong. Neither one is ready to make an impact in the NBA, right now, and could have used another year of development in the college game. But they'll both be 1st round picks all the same because the NBA isn't looking for finished products, necessarily, and instead opting for moldable pieces towards the mid-late 1st round.

True, and now that you look at Springer's projections at this moment, he still could have come back and vastly improved his stock. He will be a millionaire, but it would have been interesting to weigh his possible NIL options and then improving to a slot with more money next year.

Let’s see where he gets drafted, been a lot of talk about him rising up some boards recently…if he goes Top 20 not sure there’s much discussion here. What do you think his ceiling would be, I’ve got a hard time seeing him Top 10?

Maybe not vastly improved, but he could have marginally improved his stock, perhaps. And you bring up a good point on the NIL impact of their decisions. No longer is it an all-or-nothing proposition to decide to return to school. You can return and still make some money while in school. It isn't NBA millions, but you aren't eating Ramen every night, either.
