Team That Has More Devastating NCAA Tourney History?

Seriously I cannot name another team with a more devastating history.

2007- Tennessee blows 20 point halftime lead in Sweet 16 to Ohio State

2009- Oklahoma State hits 3 pointer with 7 Seconds Left to Bounce Vols

2010- Foul with 2 seconds left costs Tennessee 1 Pt Loss to Michigan State at Elite 8

2014- Tennessee Erases 14 Point Deficit but Michigan squeaks win by 2 in Sweet 16

2018- Tennessee Draws Team of Fate Loyola who hits jumper with 5 seconds left to win by 1

2019-Tennessee erases 14 Point Deficit to Purdue, Takes 3 Point Lead with 1:00 left, loses in OT in Sweet 16

2022- Tennessee blows 85% chance to win with 8 mins left, scores only 8 in last 8 minutes to lose to Michigan
The school has been cursed in the 21st century, basketball and football. I blame Y2K

Oh it’s absurd. Go look at the list of teams that have made a final four and it makes it even worse. I’m still convinced that we are a government experiment to see how much one group of people can take before they snap
Lmao it all makes so much sense now, we are an mk ultra experiment.

Well, shoot. Thought I was done for the evening.
I’ll have another round, Mr. Bartender.

Georgia, Miss St., and South Carolina have FFs; that should tell you how cruel this all is.

You forgot to mention the very good Tennessee team that was upset by tiny Virginia Military Institute in 1976.

I don't care how much of a lead you have, when you only score 8 points in the last 8 minutes of a game you usually aren't going to win. Cold streaks have been our Achilles heal all year, and my tournament fears were fully realized tonight.

Don’t forget NC after Haywood fouled out.

I will die on this hill: that's the worst loss in UT hoops history. That team was absolutely loaded and easily could have won it all. The most talented roster we've ever had. I think we had UNC down by 8 with 3 minutes left and managed to blow it.

That was our best shot at a Final Four in my lifetime.

Heard Barnes post game comments and it sounded like disjointed jibberish. He'd start a sentence...then stop...go to another subject...etc etc. Barnes is a tourney choker. There's articles about it. It's well documented. But...he has us relevant....and the trade off for the reg season success is never being a factor in the ncaa tourney. We could go undefeated all season and Barnes would find a way to get ousted the first weekend. It's who he is...every damn year.

We could have John Wooden COACH US WITH MICHAEL JORDAN, KOBE BRYANT, SHAW, CHARLES.BARKLEY, PATRICK EWING, AND LEBRON JAMES ON THE ROSTER IN THEIR PRIME AND WE STILL WOULDN'T MAKE A FINAL FOUR.

No matter the coach or players, we still seemed to be cursed to be the laughing stock of college basketball.

We were probably destined to win it all in 2020. Play our way in, catch a program's history worth of breaks, cut down the nets. Alas.

I don’t know Barnes post season success at Texas and don’t give a Damn to be honest. But what I do care about is Barnes success at TN, as I’m sure you do as well. You really pinning this loss on him?

Barnes made a Final Four at Texas so he didn't choke every year. I think he also had an Elite Eight one year as well.

Tennessee is just cursed by God and Tennessee chokes no matter who the coaches or players are. Talk to God about our struggles and ask him.

It's funny how many posters were saying "Where are all the Barnes critics now?" after we won SEC tourney. I cautioned against dropping the mic yet as a BIG part of any Barnes criticism is folding in the tourney. Ill take the relevance Barnes has brought and losing in the tourney as compared to not being a factor at all...but Barnes will never get a team to the ultimate prize....even if we are undefeated going into tourney and 20 pt favorites every game.

The more I think about it, someone must have blasphemed God in Knoxville or put a hex on our program. If you go back and look at many of our losses in Basketball an Football, they are unexplainable. I remember the fumble in the end zone for the Georgia game in football, fluke hail mary comeback by Florida in 2015, the missed FG game against Florida in 2014, the Texas A&M overtime loss in 2016, Ole Miss this year, Pittsburgh this year, Purdue this year.

Then in basketball, the OP summed it all up. Most of this is just luck and teams having their best game and getting all of the breaks against us. Perhaps we need to pray to God or something because fate just seems against us right now.

In fairness, we've had a few really fortunate wins in football over the years, as well.

Coworker of mine has a theory that the Pantone 151 shade of Orange somehow sharpens the mental focus of those who see it. Hence, why it seems like someone on the opposing team always seems to have a career day versus TN. Since TN primarily is looking at defenders and not each other, it doesn't affect them the same.

Again...just a theory

Had we hung on to win that game, we would have had 7th seeded Tulsa - Bill Self was coaching them then, but still - in the Elite 8. A not-all-that-great 5th seeded Florida team in the Final Four. And Michigan St. in the finals. It was all right there for us.
