when i saw that avatar, i knew it was hohen w/out looking.:eek:lol:

as for the topic..........um, no. the biggest difference between college football and the NFL is the defenses you face.

college teams regularly have speed and skill on offense. rarely do you put a def on the feild as big, fast and strong as what you will see on a regular basis in the NFL.

that's why the spread wont' work inthe NFL. that's why Mike Vick and Vince Young, athletic as they are, can't make a living with their legs as qb's.

i'll put it this way......it's the difference between getting hit by Ryan Karl and Ray Lewis. and in college there are a lot more Ryan Karls than there are Ray Lewis's.

I spent most of the LSU/UF game watching to see how hard Dorsey would hit that guy.

I didn't get to see the clean shot I wanted, but Ray Lewis will destroy anything moving that slowly.

What makes you so sure he'll play in the NFL? He's got to somehow get through the SEC without injury. Look at how Berry and Mayo are hitting now.

The SEC may be the end of his career--especially the way CUM uses him. I mean who's surprised he has a broken bone at the end of the season. The better question is whether he'll make it to the NFL without a career-ending injury. I don't wish it on him, but that's the danger of playing QB in the CUM system.

What beats me is why some of the most talented WR's are willing to play in that system.

Don't they want a chance to show off their skills to NFL scouts who want them to do something more than a good cut block on a DE to free up the QB to run wide?

I'd like to see Tebow run it in Shawn Merriman's direction. :birgits_giggle:

Tebow will have fewer than ten career starts at quarterback in the NFL.

Edit: I think there's better than a 50/50 chance he has zero.

The scouts are going to hate his throwing motion. He's a great college player, but Chris Leak was a better pro prospect than Tebow will be.

I said this in an earlier thread:

He has a goofy-ass, awkward throwing motion and he's only 6' 3". He's not the most accurate of passers. The scouts will pick him apart.

These are all things going against him. I'm not downplaying what he's done.

I believe it's accurate

Absolutely. What's the success rate for prototypical NFL-style, drop back QBs taken in the first round? Less than 50%? Every year there are 5-10 quarterbacks drafted who look like they have all the physical tools to play QB in the NFL, yet probably only about half of the 32 teams in the league even have one guy who can play the position decently. The jump is enormous. And when you add in that Tebow will be handicapped by his throwing motion, by the fact that the offense he's been running is nothing like they have in the NFL, by the fact that such a huge percentage of his value (the running game) is simply not going to exist at the next level....I just don't see how anybody can expect at this point to see Tebow starting on Sundays.

Will he run over people in the NFL? No

Will he play in the NFL? Yes

Will he be successful? Doubt it (See Alex Smith)

running QB + NFL= big problem

As a Falcons fan, I've been thinking about this proposition a lot over the last few years. I think it's _possible_ for a running QB to be successful in the NFL: the Falcons were successful with Vick when Dan Reeves was the coach, before they brought in Jim Mora and the West Coast offense (which Vick was horrifically ill-suited to run). The problem is that if the team isn't winning, a running QB becomes a lightning rod for criticism; it's awfully easy for fans and the media to look at his passing stats and complain about what he supposedly isn't doing. The same thing is starting to play itself out in Nashville with Vince Young this year.

The running QBs who have had successful careers in the NFL have been able to reinvent themselves somewhat as drop-back passers, guys who can throw for 300 yards when needed and can pick up first downs with their legs here and there -- as you guys mention, Young, Cunningham, McNabb. Tebow's going to have to become a dramatically better passer if he wants a shot at an NFL career.

If you want a real answer, just look at what Alex Smith has accomplished in San Fran.

I think June Jones just said what everyone else wants to say. When Tebow gets hurt, CUM will just plug another Superman into the offense and it will be pretty close to the same garbage offense they run now.

I think he will get a shot in the NFL for sure. I am not so sure he will be a good QB. Option QBs don't play NFL football!

I'm in no way endorsing Timmy, but to say running QBs haven't had success in the NFL is not exactly correct.
100% agree. Running is a nice tertiary attribute for those who can throw accurately and make NFL style decisions in a hurry. Run first types just aren't going to make it work, ever.

As one of the board's main Tim Tebow apologists and fan, I'd say there is no way he will have the success he is having now in the NFL. I do think he will be quite successful, both running and throwing. But there is a quantum leap between playing a defense with 2-3 pro guys on it versus one where all 11 are that caliber and all 11 have tremndous people right behind them on the depth chart.

As I say, succuessful yes, but not as successful. Just not possible, IMO.

you actually don't have to post for us to know exactly where you stand on anything UF. The head of the Homer line is reserved for you and we're well aware.
