My thoughts are that they provide a valuable service to democrats so they will be protected to some extent. Factor that in with repubs being afraid to go after them with any real teeth for fear of being labeled racist and I think you have the main factors.
you damn near described a huge portion of the entitlements programs.

it seems that republicans are going after them, or at least the mccain campaign. again, i understand the logic. more voters never helps republicans -- especially when they are traditionally disadvantaged (poor, minority, etc..)

what does this mean? we like to use this word to mean something and always seem to forget that everyone who started this little United States experiment was disadvantaged. Coming out of the depression, the vast majority of Americans were heavily disadvantaged. Where my parents are from, everyone was flat broke and farmed cotton for a living. So, forgive me if I struggle to connect with that term.

To me it seems term being interchanged with those who haven't figured out how to make a decent living in the US.

That is not going after them, they are just calling them out. When I say go after them with teeth I mean exposing the partisanship and cutting their money off for being an extension of the democrat party!

Wow, I had no idea that "disadvantaged" was such a loaded term. My apologies.

Well, that's hard to do with the dems in control of congress, although I doubt it will stop the republicans from bitching and moaning about it since they know there's nothing they can do about it. it's really very similar to the dems complaining about every little issue when they were the minority... and suddenly, they are in power and they don't do anything about it b/c either (a) they were just bitching for effect or (b) they are spineless losers scared of their own shadows.

Not sure if this has been posted... But Mickey Mouse was registered to vote in Florida by ACORN

Vote drives defended, despite fake names - St. Petersburg Times
Of course Mickey Mouse registered. He is the Democratic candidate.

I agree. Acorn is responsible for actions of its employees, and I have no idea why they keep getting funding if these problems are so "widespread." My guess is that these problems are not all that widespread, and these issues are to be expected considering the sheer complexity of dealing with millions of voter registrations and multiple state agencies.

If you're not aware.. Barney Frank and the libs added a little legislation into a bill that passed that charges 420 dollars to every (as in all) mortgages over 100k. This 420 dollars goes into things like Acorn. It's the law.

we should all applaud his energy. Most citizens can't take the time to vote while this kid wanted to do it 73 times. Keep it up kid
