Teixeira to braves: ESPN

I'd hate to see Salty go, but with McCann, there's no reason to have him... and the Braves need a first base guy in the worst way.

The person this probably has the biggest impact on will be Andruw. He and Tex have the same agent, Andruw will become a FA at the end of the year, and Andruw really needs to up his game the remainder of the year to merit top dollar in the market.

I bet Andruw starts hitting a lot better with Tex in the lineup.

I guess my question would be why?? You give up your organizations two top prospects for a guy you don't have a chance of signing. For what? Another early exit from the playoffs....if you even make it that far.

...because with Smoltz and Chipper aging and Andruw on the way out, the window of opportunity is closing.

The chances are definitely better with them than without them.

Guys.....who is the team to beat in the NL?

LA?

The point is...look at the Cards last year. They were middling throughout the whole year and finally put it together in the playoffs. This is an excellent deal that the Braves made.

Great move, great for the Braves, the NL is officially wide open.

yeah that being the team to beat hasn't worked out to well ........

Just don't throw Davies out there and you'll have at least 5 more wins this year.

.......they only won ONE in their prime!

50% of why they only won one was simply plain bad luck. (I'm looking at you, Lonnie Smith and Mark Wohlers and Eric Gregg.) The other 50% of it was that the Braves had so much of their salary wrapped up in starting pitching that the lineup was never that great. Chipper/Teixeira/Andruw (if Andruw starts hitting) gives the Braves a better heart of the order than they've had at any point since 1991.

What's the alternative, to do nothing and finish 5 back in the division and 3 back in the WC? This at least helps give a chance to making the post-season, and looking at the NL this year, a chance could very well be enough.

Andruw still needs to start hitting, a third starter needs to step up, and the pen (particularly Wickman) needs to get it together, but this dramatically improves Atlanta's chances of playing in October. It was a nice pick up.

This line up isn't too bad:

Willie
Rent
Larry
Tex
Andruw
McCann/Frenchy
Frenchy/McCann
KJ

......and two years from now you'll be saying we gave up Salty and Elvis for what? not arguing that they had to make a move....but it was a steep price to pay just to rent a 1b.....nothing short of a WC title could justify it. If they have anything left they should go after Garland if they are serious about making a run. It was almost a done deal last week with Edgar going to the WSox...

Guys its not as though Tex is gone after this year. He's still got another year to help the Braves.

It was almost a done deal last week with Edgar going to the WSox...

So you'd have rather made the move for Garland and given up Rent, perhaps the most important part of your lineup, instead of a single A player, a not that great pitching prospect, and a guy that couldn't beat Thorman out for playing time? Looks like someone else n eeds to be drug tested, and not the GM.
